Southend Match Thread (n/t)
at 14:26 20 Oct 2024

I have worked in football, rugby league and ballet and non contact injuries should not be happening in professional sport. In simple terms it is usually due to poor screening and lack of adequate strength and conditioning to cope with the load of the sport. Footballers are notoriously lazy and non compliant when it comes to S&C. We would never see non contact injuries in rugby or ballet

A decent listen and interesting to see their opinions of how we might go

Big Jim confirmed as permanent manager
at 19:56 12 May 2023

I'm not stunned about the appointment but very disappointed. This was a big opportunity to reset the club and change the style we've had to endure for many seasons. It was also a chance for the board to show they listen to the opinions of fans instead of just paying lip service.

The next week will go some way to see if Jim really wants to change things. If he doesn't clear the decks and gives sentimental contracts then I fear the worst. I can understand some of the football he played so far as he had no real scope to change playing style with the dross he inherited. There have been glimpses of attacking, entertaining football so I've not totally lost hope but I am clinging on with my fingernails

Mike Williamson the Gateshead manager has appeared in the betting. Could be the man with NL experience we might need?

Finding the positives
at 21:56 2 May 2023

I am mildly optimistic if we can get the next crucial decisions right. It's a great chance for the club to reset on and off the field. Take on board some of the great fan suggestions that have come about recently. On the field have a big clear out and change the ethos of the last 5 seasons of turgid losing football. Try to appoint a Micky Mellon/Darrell Clarke type manager and get fans excited to attend games again.

The BT tv coverage is really good and we get away from the dire stewardship of the EFL.

Finally, there is the trip to the Shay

Rochdale's Relegation: Mark Hodkinson Q&A

A brilliant read and highlights the gradual decline. It is now that the vast football knowledge and insight of people like Mark should be sought and egos left aside

Completely Inept McNulty
at 18:17 15 Apr 2023

The worry I have giving McNulty the job full time would be his loyalty to the players he has played and worked with for years. Most are clearly not good enough and we need a massive clear out and rebuild

He applied for the job before Stockdale was appointed and then we approached him when Stockdale was sacked

I think Wild was looking for a move while at Fax and applied for the Dale job before Stockdale was appointed

SACK Bentley!
at 11:00 22 Feb 2023

I would do the same, promote from within just to get the season done and try to line someone up to start once the last game is finished. I think we should look into someone with non league experience. Phil Parkinson at Alty has done a great job, play good football and he has even turned Sinclair into a world beater! Sounds to be a good man manager and turned a few careers around

SACK Bentley!
at 19:15 18 Feb 2023

I don't really want Hill back in an ideal world and I doubt anyone can get this bunch to respond. But, some managers are just a perfect fit for a club. Coleman at Accrington, Jones at Luton. If anyone could get a bounce effect in this situation then it would be Hill. Get him in until the end of the season and roll the dice

If there is a link then it needs scrapping as apart from RND the rest have been pretty poor and barely league standard players

Who was advising Bentley about Eastwood? Even off his brief appearances last season you could see he was a hesitant keeper and his lack of first team football at his ripe age says all you needed to know.

Bentley Out?

We couldn't afford to bring a striker in, so there's no chance of paying a management team out

But are we just kidding ourselves that anyone could save us with this squad? Is it better to save our money for next season?

When the dust settles and we prepare next season for the national league we need to try and move Bentley on as well if we can afford to. His hands have been tied but his tactical mistakes have been glaring. Our style of play remains so pedestrian. Just watching Alty and they play with a real tempo on the front foot. We should be looking at a manager from that level instead of the usual tried and failed league managers

A suggestion that will probably cause uproar
at 20:17 21 Jan 2023

Huddersfield Town stopped running an academy due to cost and only have 18+ development teams and pick players released from other teams. The percentage of players who make it through the age groups is low, so when trying to set a non league budget then it is a sensible thing to consider
