If not mistaken, Alfie Lloyd went on loan around the same age and got 20 senior games under his belt, 2 yrs older than Kolli but looks as if he's willing to get his head down and work this season, Marti is rewarding him with game time ahead of Kolli whilst still being raw himself.

Depends how you frame it i suppose: 'fu*k yeah I'll go on loan watch me tear up league 1 come back in jan you'll have no choice but to play me'. Or 'nah too good for a loan I'm already better than all these fuc*kers here (bar chair / dembele)'.

Either way the talking should be done on the pitch. Kolli has ability and clearly believes in himself but still a lot to learn positionally. Should that learning curve be in our 1st team or elsewhere? Either way Marti sees him every day and trust he knows best.

Jimmy Dunne - undroppable
at 10:25 2 Sep 2024

Yeah true, though it would also limit his options / earning potential as a new club would then have to stump up a transfer fee potentially paying him less signing on fee or wage p/w

High risk, high reward i suppose.

Lets face it, everyone's loyal to the cause until the potential of a few more £££ elsewhere turns our head.

Also, he's 27 next month and could quite easily find himself 3rd choice CB and 2nd choice RB by then. I would also be keeping my options open.

It will be interesting to see how the Ashby loan works out, as he has not come here to sit on the bench. We beat a few other suitors, so we can assume we offered some assurances regarding game time.

He's a right back, which will mean Dunne out and used as cover for RB/CB/LB potentially hindering Santos and Morrison's development. This seems strange considering that the RB position was not in urgent need of strengthening.

That said, he could be surplus to requirements at Newcastle and is here to impress, perhaps with a view to earning a longer-term deal.

Love it.

You can tell the man is fighting for his future, especially with his contract likely ending end of the season. He'd be 31, this his last shot before potentially returning to the Swiss back waters. Got to respect the fight in him, he can also play.

Do goals change games or what.. !

Lads done well to stay in there and Nardi with that spiderman save kept us in it.

I looked at our bench before the game and thought for the first time in a while there is some depth there, not all proven but something to throw the dice with.

Smyth gave the exact impact sub performance we know and love.
Varene looked composed and showed good signs.
Saito & Anderson offered a different dimension.

Luton favorites to go up? Got to have a bit more guile than balls in the box for the big lads.

Transfer rumours 2024

Harrison Ashby was highly rated at West Ham before going up to Newcastle, had a high number of assists at youth / reserve level if memory serves and they signed him as a Trippier long long term replacement.

More of a 'traditional' forward thinking right back in the sense can get up and down on the overlap and be more threatening going forward. Dunne stepped up admirably to the task but isn't quite that.

Assuming a loan with view to perm signing.. otherwise what's the point developing another teams prospect at the expense of our own sellable assets, at a point where its not a critical emergency to cover that position for a crucial set of upcoming fixtures.

I also heard that a few of the loft end floodlight bulbs need replacing, we could send Jimmy up there, he'll fix it.

Went with my Forest supporting mate who was loving Walsh and Colback. Overall we held our own against a strong Luton side with two absolute units up top (hoping Adebeyo out for fri). A word on the new/fringe players:

Walsh - genuine competition for No.1 and why not, great saves and that pen down low oooh

Morrison - quietly went about his job, good on the ball and unfazed, reliable cover / future starter at CB

Santos - good in parts, pacy, thrown into the deep at RB against Doherty towards the end. I see him more of an attacking RB when chasing a game as not quite a RW and needs work positionally though great clearance at the back stick

EDB - i like the fella and his forward thinking passing but didn't really take his chance at 10 though played part in the goal

Saito - some nice touches but quiet against a physical Luton. Replaced by Lloyd who was well up for it, positively taking his man on and often successful. Looking forward to see how he develops this season as he looks hungry for it, love to see it

Celar - Often isolated against two cb's with a hopeful ball to chase, not his game. Showed some nice touches but just needs more game time and experience in this environment + his first goal, lets back our front man to come good!

Dembele - Such a difference when you have a central attacker who can beat his man and break lines, opens up so much space with defenders backtracking and runners either side. I feel this will be a good source of goals this season as well as wicked set-pieces

Would we have taken £3m+ for both Dykes and Sinclair earlier in the summer?

I think we probably would.

As per last season Argyle down to 10 in first half, lets see if we can break them down this time...

Centre Mid - do we need Hayden
at 09:09 19 Aug 2024

Not for me, its so early in the season and looks like we've decided Varane to be that guy. Tracked him for months & paid hard cash for the man, got to back him and let him develop / make mistakes along the way.

I see Hayden as an expensive stop-gap with no sell-on value, (even a 50% pay cut would put him on £25k p/w) if we're struggling down the bottom come Jan then ok someone like that can help (on loan), but for now I'd enjoy the process of polishing our own diamond in the rough for potential big profit.

That chop back touch before he laid it to Dykes was joyful, he's also got the 'Mitoma Step" in his locker (1.18 from highlight video posted).

They wont always come off but will be an exciting player to watch from that short cameo.

Noticed Varane likes to to slide in often, quite unnecessarily as per CU goal midweek and just now for a yellow card. Walking red card right now

Not one of our new signings has played in the Championship before, it'll take time to settle.
