The abuse that Graham was getting today was tinpot from the stands. Circus music from the fans, personal abuse etc. It is clear the lad is low on confidence, and abuse from the stands towards your own player is counter productive. Why as a fan would you want to shout and yell at your own player, and think the abuse will make them better. When a player is struggling he needs support from everyone.
This also needs to be evident to the manager, when a player is struggling, you shouldn't keep putting him in the firing line. There needs to be managing these situations from the boss.
I will though, never understand why any so called fan would boo one of their own.
If I'm totally honest, I'm not seeing any difference between this play under Stockdale, and BBM's style. This was a game where Rochdale were tactically outclassed by a non leaguer. Notts were better in possession, they had much more pace in their passes, and were much better in tight spaces and playing through the lines. Why have players like Odoh been stiffled in the way they play, because he's no where near as dynamic as he used to look.
Rochdale haven't had an actual manager now since Hill left, they need to stop hiring in these inexperienced coaches and making the team into this sort of development team. There needs to be an actual manager who can tactically adjust when needs be, not someone who comes in with this philosophy of how they play the game, but cant change things as they go. This is League 2, you don't get to have a philosophy. All I see is sideways passing and zero movement off the ball, and this comes from managers instructions, you have to be smart enough to change the game when your style is failing. This is boring and stiffling football that is easily found out. I can't see any improvement, and unless a proper manager comes in, it won't change.
Does anyone have a programme from the match tonight you’d be willing to give away? I meant to get one for someone who this was her first football game in the uk. If so, drop me a PM. Thanks
Where exactly were the police after the second goal, flares and missiles being tossed between fans, plastic wannabe hard “men” from both fans, not a pubic hair between them, but someone could have been seriously injured, tinpot.
Suicidal. On that pitch, recipe for disaster! Lillis should have never been put in that situation to clear it, should have been dealt with like three passes previous.
Some great football today, and one of the most stressful games for the same reason. This was the best I've seen Dale play up front for a while, the movement and quick passing in the final third was a joy to watch, but in the same breathe, so frustrating that the final pass or shot eluded them. It looks clear that Hill has tried something different up front, the interplay was a big encouragement despite the result. I have no issue with losing, as long as there is a clear plan on show, and giving it their all.
Clearly the no fear football has disappeared, replaced with boring, predicable, and defensive play. Hill is doing a great job emulating his idol, Mourinho, with his wide men seemingly unwilling to cross the half way line. This team has been found out, and unless some spark returns this is going to be a long ass season. When you see so many players playing within themselves, it makes you wonder, is there something else going on, whatever it is, this can't go on.
Looking like being the first team in the playoffs, who were at home in the return leg, to go out. Coventry, though, have been very impressive, a stunning fact about Coventry that I learned, they haven't been promoted since 1967! be good to see them climb up.
All in all I think this has been a very positive season, disappointing not to grab a playoff spot, but we were always playing catch up, but the fighting spirit shown by the team can't be underestimated. The club, one and off the pitch feels very positive right now, feels like we're going places and not just treading water, with the season ticket sales going really well, now is the time to capitalise on the feel good factor.
This team is not far off a top 6 place, a good striker and more defensive stability would have seen us easily in the top 6, we have a very young team with so much energy, some class players who will only get better with each year. It is so good that we have players like Camps, McGahey, Rathbone, Cannon, tied down for next season, and hopefully we can keep one of NML or Lund.
What a transformation the club has taken, when missing out on the L1 playoffs could be considered a disappointment, we have come a long way from battling L2 relegation year in year out. I am very proud of this team, being away for half the season, I've had to rely on social media, but it has been great following them, this is a team going places, exciting times ahead, definitely!
Went to my first MLS game tonight, Toronto FC vs Atlanta. It is a very different experience to football back in England, I don't know if anyone has taken in an MLS game, they have fireworks before the teams come out to the field and after a goal, or at least TFC do. Fans are allowed to drink beer in the stands, and are treated as people, and as such the atmosphere felt really relaxed and passionate, the atmosphere was probably better than in some PL grounds, particularly once the Icelandic clap went around the stadium. Chilling. As for the game, there was a few good moments, mainly from the US captain, Bradley, but, I have seen just as good a football at Spotland, some of Dales passing could rival what I saw tonight. All in all an enjoyable night, and wanted to share the experience with you.
Firstly, this isnt a bashing of Wilson, its tough being an exile fan. How good is this lad? I know we have been conceeding a lot lately, I'm not saying he is at fault but is he any better than Logan? Is Logan injured, I know he was dropped due to bad form, but is it timento put him back in? Someone posted a stat about Wilson, he is yet to win a professional game? I know he has only just started, I just found that interesting.
