The manager seems quietly (silently?) resolute. He is assembling a decent looking squad with his team ethic in mind; which I think could be the telling factor. His approach, from what we have seen so far and from player feedback, is likely to produce attractive yet disciplined football. He is anxious to enhance his CV and raise his profile in England. Good in the short term for us as he will be highly motivated to do well. Of course if he does too well, then he’ll be off. Noel Blake seems to have had first hand dealings with some of the players and they all speak highly of him; which was probably a key factor in them joining us (in spite of the ongoing circus) and will hopefully lead to us signing good young players in future. The squad appears to be taking shape and although my eyebrows were raised at the return of Peter Clarke, I think that having him, McMahon and Greening (if he arrives) around the dressing room will get us back towards developing the kind of team spirit that the 2010 team had. I have supported Blackpool for far, far too long to get all starry eyed about our prospects, and the first 4-6 weeks will be tough given the joke of a pre season, but I am hopeful. |
