Being clean never comes cheap or easy. In my kitchen the cheapest way is to never clean and just build up a load of crap and clean it once a month.
It is better and more expensive not to generate any crap and clean every day. It is a principle we live by.
In parts of India they put landfill straight into the river and burn coal. I do not live like them and their lifestyle is their choice and they have to take the consequences. Chinese people become wealthier and will demand clean air to breathe.

The majority of houses in the UK require electric. When it comes to heating however, the majority I imagine use gas but the customer has a choice here by switching to electric heating….solar or even heat pumps.

Another problem is until the Grid can accept new connections from new forms of generation then this will continue, there are many new Battery storage sites being approved but again these are at low voltage and tend to feed back into the local grid rather than the national.
Until recently there was a new build wind farm in mid Wales although fully functional couldn't generate as the local grid hadn't had the ability to connect to it. This is repeated across the country where local councils agree to the site being built but it cannot be connected. | |

Once you’re outside the main towns, there are a lot of people who don’t have gas.
Heat pumps aren’t rubbish, on a new house they are excellent, but they aren’t suited to older suited to older properties.
One of my brother in laws and a couple of his mates have built a few high end houses to sell. The properties are timber frame with a brick outer skin and the amount of insulation in them is unreal. They’ve got quilted insulation on the inside of external walls plus another around 6 inches of Rockwool insulation on top of that, they are very warm and energy efficient. | | | |

It's the insulation that keeps the property warm not the heat pumps. You could do the same with gas boilers

Presumably homeowners can give it a surge of fossil fuels juice to get it up to 20c. It needs to go to luke warm to hot not cold to hot therefore saving money. | |

I’ve asked the question on this site previously as to why we build massive solar farms out in the sticks in the middle of nowhere and spend billions commecting them to the grid whereas it would be far more practical and cheaper long term to put solar panels on every house in the country? My answer? If every house had its own ability to energise itself the energy companies couldn’t make any money. They need to control the supply so they can raise the prices when they want bigger dividends.
It’s a sad truth which is probably (and I admit I’m in conspiracy theory territory here which I despise) holding back the development of technology like fusion power which we’ve known about since the 1940’s, has little waste, is carbon zero, uses the mode abundant element in the universe as its ‘fuel’ and would solve all our energy problems forever. |  |

The only people responsible for some parts of Wales being poor it the Senedd who only spend money in South East Wales. They were poorer when we in the EU. Glad you brought that up. [Post edited 25 Feb 15:47]
