Still really pssed off this morning , more to do with the fact we don’t look sharp enough to make a play off push even though we’re far from out of it but look at Coventry , thought they were no better than us and look at them now sitting in 8th place and only 1 point off the play off places ( could and should be us !) anyway …. What they were good at and what we don’t do enough is the little basic things that give you that advantage. How many times did they knock us over off the ball and get away with it including the decisive goal ! Lost count of the times we had the ball and one of ours was on the deck being taken out the game with not even a murmur from the ref ? Also , every time we were battling for the ball back , as soon as any sort of contact and they were throwing themselfs on the floor getting a free kick . Surely when we see other teams start these shenanigans and the ref not wanting to know then we should fight fire with fire ? Thought they were dirty crafty bstards all night but still only 3 points above us and they won’t get away playing like that for long
I thought that was one of the most evenly matched games we’ve played this season, although he’s much hated through his Chelsea links I find it hard to dislike Fat Frank as well, his comments after pretty much reflected the game and he said it could have gone either way.
favourite cheese mature Cheddar. FFS there is no such thing as the EPL
I thought we did fight fire with fire, we were just as bad at throwing ourselves on the floor, wasting time and running the clock down last night
Really very little in the game, both teams had spells where they were on top, a draw would have been fair but like a lot of games recently can't argue at a narrow win either way
We will lose games between now and the end of the season all about how quickly we bounce back, win on Friday and at Portsmouth then March is a great opportunity for us, if we won't get much out of these 2 games March looks a long and tricky month

March tough, but then we usually raise our game against the better teams?
I'd probably be more worried if all those games were against teams below us!
Acton..... you gotta accept that refs at this level will set their stall out and stick by it. It was clear from the get go that last nights man would favour the home team for an easier life. With certain refs home advantage really is a home advantage.
One thing that summed that up was the little fracas at one of the million corners we had at the end. Jimmy gets pinned in the net by three of their players and is being held by all of them still long after ref blows up and arrives on the scene. How he then books one of theirs and Jimmy for being held down by three players I do not know.
Saito was taken down off the ball three times last night and got nothing.
The game should've been a draw and we may well have sneaked it if we'd had a better option to bring on for last 35 mins than Alfie. I am an Alfie fan but 35 mins away from home with that ref was not going to be his finest and he's miles away from what was needed to replace Frey (who I thought had a great game that miss aside).
It's a modern day miracle we're even looking at the top six and I take solace that another 4 wins (or combinations to get 12 points) will see us home n hosed.
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal
Fine margins. One week we get away with the Blackburn handball goal, the next week the Cook shove isn't penalised. At least we're competing these days. A work in progress.
Im looking at it negatively, but its not a great leap of imagination to see us go on a losing run and start looking over our shoulders again. Im not complaining about the progress made, but it is fine margin stuff either way. Hopefully we can win on Friday and get nearer to the 50/52 point mark

He also said that they deserved the win, which they didn’t really.
Losing with the last kick/head of the game has always been a cruel blow and stings the most IMO. If you are getting your ass kicked its one thing but we had corners to win it in injury time at their end then 30 seconds later we lose it at our end its pretty soul crushing. We immediatly think of our chances and why it came down to the final ball to beat us it makes being fans hard The contrasting emotions of a well earned draw away last night to a sickening loss is so stark and we just have to put it behind us pretty quickly
It was a game that could have gone either way from two evenly matched teams. Think we are now at a level where we should be, in mid table. Probably suggest that Coventry may be more likely to push for the play offs, but again they sort of look a bit short of the quality needed to make the Prem anyway. I would like us to have a decent run in especially at home and try and finish in the top 10 with a points total above 60 points.

Perhaps with our last corner we should have gone short and faffed around at the corner flag running the clock down. Think we would have got the point doing that as attempting to get the ball in the box from corners proved futile.
As you say losing with the last kick or action is just about the worst way to lose. Does feel as we have been more on the receiving end of stoppage time defeats than winning in stoppage time during the past 25 years but who knows?

If we did that some will say we should have taken the opportunity to get a last minute winner.
Coventry didn't faff around with theirs.
Decisions (inc. team selection, formation, subs etc) are only the right decision if something positive is gained with the result. Anything else is deemed wrong.
If we carry this defeat into Derby and feel sorry for ourselves we'll lose again on Friday. It's about being angry about the defeat, the manner of defeat and taking that anger out against Derby. Nothing else matters and it will (again) show where this team is if they can take last night out on Derby Friday evening.

Let's be honest, neither side is remotely good enough for the PL.
We did ok, could have done better, draw a fair result. I am not to pleased today either but a couple of wins and we will be close to the play-offs as well.......it is the Championship.
Leeds are running and probably the best team but they will need to replace most of their players to stand any chance of staying in the PL.......it is not rocket science!!!!!

Was going to mention the 3 Saito incidents off the ball . The third one , was a nasty elbow very similar to what Lloyd got at Millwall. Once again right in the eyeline of the linesman ..nothing. I knew after that how this match was going to go . I think we have been victim to a lot of that this season but we have to be wiser to it all . We are very very naive and have been for a few seasons now .

Both agree and disagree with the above stuff. Neither team is anywhere near Premier league. Not much between them now. Lose Friday and look behind with trepidation. Win And the Play off “ dream” survives. Mind you, not much chance there, unless it’s achieved on the back of some amazing performances next month. With regard to last night’s ref….really don’t think it’s sensible putting any blame there. Take off our tinted specs and he was the same for both sides…particularly with regard to shirt pulling antics.

Isn't the old saying that the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results? The fact that our previous 8 corners were woeful with the same approach should have had someone pointing out to try something different by the 9th attempt. We were playing an inform team and should have settled for a good away point and kept possession down their end with a short corner. Seeing out games has been an issue at times.

Did say on another thread that ref had nothing to do with us losing .
Am still particularly angry and dejected today - and we didn't play badly at all. We've played so much worse this season (Oxford H first half, Bristol City away) and got good results.
Yes, it's the manner of the last-ditch defeat but, for me, a tight 1-0 defeat away to Coventry still has a particularly horrible, historical, resonance....

How is it 'very very naive' on our part if our players get assaulted and the referee blanks it? What would you suggest we do differently? Get Cook to take him out with a low swing (which, to be fair, he deserved)?

Apologies, I Didn’t explain myself very well. I didn’t mean Saito was naive in those incidents .
I mean, for example we don’t have an Ashley Barnes or Barry Bannon , off the top of my head , constantly in the refs ear . Constantly telling the ref what those players want him to hear . After the first challenge on Saito we should have been in the ref’s ear telling him to watch (we might have but I didn’t see us doing it ) out for what they were doing .After the second assault in the middle of the park we should have surrounded the ref . I can’t recall anyone even looking interested in talking to the referee . Might be wrong . But that’s just an example . Still not explaining totally what I mean .
We play a lot of teams wiser and smarter with the dark arts than we are basically . The elbows on Lloyd and Saito in recent weeks were there for all to see , bit the peole that matter didn’t see them and went unpunished .

That’s pretty much what I was getting at , we’re not very good at being annoying horrible bstards !
