California must be one of the most song-written places ever.
How about a Thursday choons thingy to salute the firefighers ?

Since 1880, average global temperatures have increased by about 1 degrees Celsius (1.7° degrees Fahrenheit). Global temperature is projected to warm by about 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7° degrees Fahrenheit) by 2050 and 2-4 degrees Celsius (3.6-7.2 degrees Fahrenheit) by 2100.

Those bloody medieval bastards in their 4x4’s, using paraffin heaters to keep the old thatched cottages warm whilst jetting off to Ye Olde EyeBeefah for a well earned break with all the other Serfs and Landowners alike

Climate change is a fact
Mother Earth will change and there is not a God fearing thing anyone can do to stop her. Fact.
In just the last 80 or so years we’ve had Hiroshima and Nagasaki, countless smaller and larger nuke tests, Chernobyl and others alongside volcanoes, tsunamis and other natural earth changing events but still Mother Earth turns.
Yet millions and millions of lemmings follow this modern day witchcraft cult that we’re going to kill everything if we turn the boiler on, drive a car or don’t subscribe to Nutty Millibands new green army. Let’s not even consider what we spat up into the atmosphere over the industrial revolution which was minuscule compared to CO2 and sulphur emitted over Jurassic times; and compare that to how clean a lot of industries are now.
If you believe you can do your bit to change the earths temperature then knock yourself out, fair kin play to you. But is it right that you can force your views onto others and belittle those with a different opinion; are you so convinced what you’re being told is right????

I’d sooner concentrate on reduction of waste and rubbish.
What we are doing to our rivers, seas and natural land areas across the globe is disgraceful. Yes I’d agree the fossil industries are also at fault here and their contamination of areas needs further improvement absolutely.

Enough of my waffle… I’m off to stick my fingers in my ears (and this wasn’t really a thread to take down this rabbit hole…. My apologies)

Spot on.

Maybe our LA friends can advise but I guess this must be down to cutbacks and mismanagement?

As others have said, the climate situation is a known issue so how have this been allowed to be so bad? Or have we hit a tipping point where we just can’t cope?

The "perfect storm" phrase is getting used. We've had .2 inches of rain this season. Essentially, no rain for about half a year. The place is a tinder box.

The winds were incredible, gusts 60 - 90 mph. Once the fire started I'm not sure there was a way it could be controlled.

However, investigations into mismanagement and arson are starting. Reportedly the fire teams were trying to use hydrants that had no water pressure and a reservoir was "offline" and couldn't be used. LAs mayor is looking at a recall. Phone and electric lines managed by utilities are also going to be scrutinized. I wouldn't be surprised if some sicko kicked off at least some of the fires and that is being investigated.

I'm not going to dive into climate change, but if a little Los Angeles history helps, the first nations people in this area, the Kizh, practiced controlled fires over 500 years ago to stimulate plant growth and control fuel sources for potential natural fires. The first Spanish explorers here noted the smoke from local fires. The upshot is that fires, and trying to control them, have always been part of life in the region.
