New York subway fire murder 21:17 - Dec 23 with 904 views | Scotia | I've just, accidentally, watched a film of a sleeping woman being set on fire on a New York subway train. She died. But not after waking up, walking to the door of the train, being passed by several people, one guy sitting in a chair watching her die, obviously someone else filming her death, all while the killer is fanning the flames with his coat. It's harrowing. He's now been arrested. But WTF is society coming to? Ignoring someone obviously in huge distress and not even raising an alarm let alone trying to help. Is this an American thing or could it happen here? In case you haven't seen it reported. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clygk48nxgzo [Post edited 23 Dec 21:26]

Fair point - I meant I actually started watching it and it was too unbelievable to stop. The murderer is fanning the flames with his coat and nobody helps the woman on fire or tries to stop him.

New York subway fire murder on 18:12 - Dec 24 with 492 views | SullutaCreturned | I saw the story but hadn't read the full details. It's horrifying that a human being can do this to another, even worse that they think he didn't even know her and it was just a random barbarous act. I couldn't stand, or sit idly by. Those people that did, was it because they feared this obviously dangerous man would attack them and maybe he was carrying a gun? Otherwise how can you explain it?

It didn't really seem to be that they thought he was dangerous. They just seemed to ignore the situation. One of them was even wearing a police / security guard uniform or something. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
New York subway fire murder on 09:26 - Dec 25 with 331 views | AnotherJohn | It is horrendous to think that a person can board a tube train on just another day in the city and lose her life like this. We hear a lot about the impersonality of large cities where many people can be alone in a crowd, and this killing almost takes that to a new level. An illegal immigrant murders an as yet anonymous and unidentified woman, while several New Yorkers look on without taking any action. The whole episode suggests a breakdown of social cohesion, a city affected by anomie and moral disengagement.

the you tube clips of Philadelphia is bad enough. We watch a you tube channel where someone tours the states of USA visiting all sorts of towns, US isnt the land paved with gold we seem to get thrown at us.

I really cannot believe that people would sit there and watch her burn, after what he did how could they not think him dangerous, that makes no sense.

A lot of these big cities it’s often considered the height of rudeness to say hello or even to make eye contact with people whilst on public transport. Last time I was in London I had to put a guy on his arse because he became very irate at me pushing and shoving me for “standing on the wrong side” of the escalator.
