I think we can all agree that the reaction of Brereton was excessive, part of the modern game, no different from many other players.
All that aside, in my opinion, it brings ridicule on the player and harms the reputation of the club, especially the coaching staff who no doubt will be telling players "if you feel contact, go down".
In the long term, referees get to know who is likely to dive or fake contact and Brereton is a long way down that list. They also get to know which clubs are "better at trying to con them than others (and again, we would not be top of that list).
Much as I hope this type of reaction should not be part of the game, it is and in my view no credit should be given to any of the players concerned. |  | | |
