They have done some great business. I would swap their dealings for outs!

I can see them beating the Scousers on Saturday sadly.

Normally I would be pleased about them losing, but not this weekend….

If Adam Armstrong isn’t good enough for the Premier League in the eyes of some fans, then how is Sczmodics going to be any better

Be interesting to see if he can get them a few Prem goals.
He looked pretty ordinary when we played Blackburn last season.
28 years old and a modest career spent mostly in League 1..time will tell.

Ipswich have done some good business since they got promoted and I can see them being the surprise team this season and finish midtable, similar to when Brentford came up.

He looks a brilliant finisher.

Leeds away last season, Blackburn under the cosh all game, but one breakaway and a superb finish by Sczmodics to win the game.

Which isn’t to belittle Armstrong, who was superb for us last season.

I guess 11m is not a huge amount if he fails to shine in the Prem.
I can't help but feel that similar to Armstrong he'll get found out by Premier league centre backs and will be easily nullified.
Armstrong was frankly awful in his two Prem seasons and 4 goals puts him the Mara class of duds.
I reckon he'll do a better job out wide for us this season.. He's no way a centre forward.

Low fee as well IMO - reported as £9m + £2m add-ons. At today’s prices that’s a steal when you look at what we paid for Tall Paul or Mara for example…

FFP has salted the market.Prices will fall for the average players. That may be no bad thing.

With all of these successful Championship strikers when they make the step up to the Premier League, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. The same applies to strikers from minor European leagues, like the Belgian League.

Usually a critical factor is pace, as the Premier League is much faster. But, also of course you need great skill to get past Premier League defenders and harder and more accurate shooting to beat PL goalkeepers. There's a reason why strikers who score 20+ goals in a Championship season only score 4 or 5 in the top flight. BUT, some do manage to make the step up. Sczmodics may well be one of them. We'll soon find out.

The reason I'd like us to get Ayoub El Kaabi, even though he plays in a minor European league, is that he proved by scoring 5 goals against Aston Villa in a European semi-final that he can make the step up. Of course, he'd still be a bit of a gamble, but of those strikers we could realistically persuade to join us, a relatively cheap one.

Fair comment, we did overpay for both, so not a good comparison to make. I will use a different comparison, it looks like we are about to sign Cameron Archer for £15m or for that matter Mara is about to go for £10m / €10m (unsure which is correct) so I would still contend that the fee paid for SS is pretty much a bargain. I will be really interested to see how SS gets on compared to the guy Boscombe are signing for £40m.
All that aside, thoughts now turning to tomorrow afternoon on Tyneside - here’s hoping for a positive return to the PL - COYS!
