The 20MPH punishments 08:34 - Aug 3 with 141898 views | SullutaCreturned | Well the punishment for breaking the limit, https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/police-confirm-how-punish-drivers- Given how many idiots are on the roads, the delivery drivers under pressure and the actual difficutly in staying below 20 (it is difficult, I do it every week when I go to Cardiff and it's harder than you'd think, specially going downhill) there will be a lot of speeding going on. The Senedd expect the fire brigade to become a road safety unit, how stupid is that? The fire brigade have their job and it's hard enough for them to do that the way the Senedd behaves. Then there's the pollution problem, all those cars tootling around in second gear will fill the streets with pollution, it'll rise and rise and the few accidents stopped by this madness will be replaced tenfold and more in the years to come by serious health issues, those with asthma can look out, better buy your respirators now. I wonder if cancers will also increase? By the time we have all gone electric, assuming we all do, thousands of lives will be blighted by illness.

Absolutely this, why aren't we world leaders in renewable energy. Also why would someone down arrow Kilks post without posting a counter argument.

Because we don’t have the infrastructure. The grid won’t cope

"why aren't we world leaders in renewable energy" Because this is an example. A developer has challenged First Minister Mark Drakeford’s refusal to allow planning permission for a solar park in Newport to go forward. Rush Wall Solar Park, originally set to be developed on the Gwent Levels in Redwick, south east of Newport, was refused planning consent in June, despite approval from the inspector’s report. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/developer-challenges-welsh-governm

So a clogged up motorway that increases pollution, 20mph spped limits that will increase pollution and a refusal to allow a solar park that would help cut pollution in the long term. It doesn't chime with the usual language coming out of Caerdydd Bae.

So would it be fair to say that most people were moving to the South East corner which totally coincidentally has had the most investment from the Senedd; the further away from the Senedd you go, the more people, specially young people, are leaving with around 5% leaving Wales. The other noticeable thing is that it was about 10/11 years into the Senedd's time that the population growth trend reversed and for the second half of their reign so far is when the popukation has declined. Does it mean that young people ether see their futures in the South (mostky South East) of Wales or outside of Wales completely? Wales deserves better than we are getting. While Westminster has to carry some of the can for that most of the blame lays with a Senedd that is very poor at running Wales.

The 20MPH punishments on 09:30 - Aug 7 by SullutaCreturned | OK, it's happening in England too but that doesn't make it a good idea. I wonder what the pollution figures will be in all these places? And it will get worse and worse until or unless we go mostly electric. If they want to save lives put more speed cameras up, put more police on our streets, improve the roads and pavements, specially outside schools and parks. Then don't just go after speeding drivers, go after the bad drivers too. Have variable spped limits, put those nice new electric signs up and change speeds according to the conditions and time of day and here's a radical though, use technology and programme cars to obey speed limits then put out signal stations that automatically cut your speed acording to the area limit. Coming back from Penarth yesterday, doing just under 70 on the M4 and 4 cars flew past, they were obviosuly racing each other as they swerved in and out, that's the kind of stupidity we need to stop, that's what takes innocent lives. |
You can’t make cars go only as much as the speed limit just in case you need extra speed to avoid a situation. Cars have cruise control that you can set the limit to but you can intervene immediately if you need to. Our Lexus will more or less drive itself, applying breaks automatically as well. I don’t like losing that control though.

What you highlight is the real problem, bad drivers. However, on residential streets you can't use speed to get out of a bad situation. Imagine entering a 20 mph zone and literally being made to slwo down. There again, imagine a school zone having wide enough pavements and bridges instead of dodgy crossings that bad drivers just go through without a care.

It's not the larger transmission lines which is the problem , theses operate from 275 & 400 kv ,it's the lower voltage lines which or lack of which is the problem , there's been quite a few wind farms put on hold or waiting to be connected to the grid because new lines which operate normally at 33kv from wind and solar farms are low in being built , then you have local objections to new transmission lines being built in their area which all have to follow the planning process then go to appeal etc The National Grid is with the exception of the now defunct Western Power Distribution company (which was recently bought by the National Grid ) are locally owned distribution companies . Put it simply the National Grid transmit the power from the power stations across the country ,the distribution companies the supply towns and cities and normally the first connection point for renewable energy generated either by wind farms , solar or battery storage sites

Nice one Drakeford and your back to horse and cart idea of transport . Any chance you could put priority to these accidents waiting to happen rather than prosecuting somebdy doing 37mph in a 30 mph area , yes it was me , speed awerness .

I believe that if we went all EV, then the grid would have to double to cope, and that's just how it would be today, 20 30 years time the demand will be even greater. It's not going to work

That has been the main thrust of my many posts on thinsg like bilingualism, increases in the Senedd members, speed changes...MONEY. Why are we putting these ideological changes ahead of common sense, ahead of preserving lives, ahead of education, ahead of infrastructure? Living, breathing people are coming second to place names, to socialist ideology and to political gravy train increases.

Yours probably correct ,I couldnt say but having worked in both the transmission and recently the generation side of our electricity supply then I do know something of how it all joins together, imo EV in its present form will do more harm than good due to the amount of waste created just by their presence. The current infrastructure on motorways when it comrs to EVs cannot compete in refuelling for example nor will for quite a few years yet. Only when the west really take China etc the main polluters of the world to task will our efforts mean something

It will if people take responsibility. My two roof top solar panels systems provide all my electricity, charge my EV and I still export 2.5 MegaWh to the National grid every year.
