Climate Lockdowns 04:29 - Jan 14 with 6090 viewsmangohilljack

We know they are coming in 2024. (on trial) Oxford in particular.
Cities will be divided into zones confining residents to remain in their zones.
You will be allowed 100 days per year to leave your zone.
In order to leave you will need to get permission from the council.
Cars will be registered and travel will then be tracked by smart cameras some of which were rolled out throughout covid lockdowns.

Is this something that appeals to you? Will you comply?

It's a NO from me

To me it's the Supermarkets that are the problem. They have ruined small, local shops and put many out of business, starting with the butchers and grocers. These days they are busy cutting jobs too, using technology to replace humans, we all see the automated tills.

Then there's the food, much of it wrapped in plastic andnowhere nearas fresh as I'd like. So much of it kept in refrigerated containers on its journey here. Food produced locally would be much more sustainable, as indeed it used to be. We have always imported food but nowhere near the percentages we import today.

Then transport, because there were many local jobs people didn't travel so far, obviously. In a lot of cases people could walk to work. When I was 22 I didnt own a car, I walked to work which took 2/3 minutes. To watch the Swans I caught a bus, I wouldnt have driven anyway because I liked a beer. I could buy most of what I needed locally, for the rest it was 20 minute bus ride into Swansea which isially meant a bit of planning ahead and only a few such trips per year.

Some younger people think this is an impossible dream, it culd never happen but why not because it used to be normal, it used to be how we lived before globalisation, before massive profit guzzling corporations; It used to be the way and people often say it was better and we were happier. We certainly didn't have some of the health problems we see today. Obesity wasn't such a large problem (no pun intended) and we didn't have so much asthma and I could easily be wrong but I don't remember or didnt notice conditions like food allergies, ADHD and other conditions being so prevalent.

We are all to blame Cat, when i think back my Mam didnt work so did the daily shop and cooking etc. When i got married both of us worked so a supermarket was efficient. Little did i realise that to get a decent steak/meat or any form of bread decent veg etc is unusual or costs an absolute fortune.

As for the plastic dont get me started. bring back the ash tips anyday much cleaner surely., with the ammount of dual fuel stoves around here we will have too soon.

Not sure about transport i have mostly travelled for work, and during the 70's no public transport was reliable by my recollection.

The thing is i will not be lockdowned ever again.

They are her cash cow. Don't you think that's a bit suspicious?

Of course you can just look at what she claims. It's wrong too.

This is generally where the debate goes to, a scientist funded by the oil industry making assertions that aren't based on evidence.

If you actually knew anything about Judith Curry you would know that she started out as a proponent of AGW.
I first had discussions about AGW with Judith on the WUWT web site many years ago and at that time she fully endorsed AGW. In fact she was a contributor to the IPCC AR4 report.
But with more exposure to the alternative science available she has become more questioning of the IPCC Science, especially as so many contributors to the AR4 report realised that the executive summary did not refelrct their reports.

Climate Lockdowns on 17:53 - Jan 16 by A_Fans_Dad

What difference does it make to her credibility whether I understand it or not?

Well you don't understand climate change, that's been clear for years.

Judith Curry does have some credibility, there's no doubt about that. She's also got a tendency to make assertions that are either not evidenced or wrong.

My personal favourite is her critical support of the Wegman report which surprised a lot of people as it didn't make much sense, and the report was rubbish, when she was pulled up on it she was forced to admit that she hadn't even read it.

Anyway this isn't a climate change thread.
