I have been one of Williams biggest fans ....
I think cracks are starting to appear he will be 31 going into next season, cant see him playing every game as he is (has been) for much longer. [Post edited 12 Jan 2015 19:11]

Selling Amat would be a poor decision ,if it wasn't for his injury he'd still be in the team.
Fantastic footballing centre half , I'd put him above Fernandez on performances this season. |  |

Crikey there's some tripe in this thread. Doesn't anyone understand how Centre Backs work??! Williams is 30....this is about the age when they peak (in general). He's got years in him. I'm sure he's not 100% fit in recent games.....hasn't quite looked himself. But I'm absolutely goddam certain he's got years in him ....look at Terry, or even Ferdinand a couple of years ago, Cannavarro etc. Monk himself. No way should he be dropped or should we be "trying other combos coz we're safe". Madness. That said Fernandez is now "the boss" in my eyes....brilliant, brilliant defender....our best. He'll surely get bids for him soon. Amat....decent player...should be played at RB. Got all the assets to replace Rangel though would need to learn the position. Not strong enough to be a CB in the Prem ...which is why Bartley Bear is on the bench. Amat aould be no great loss if he would get decent bucks for him. |  | | |

Haha! Quite possibly yeah. I'm not even sure he was on our flight but was in the arrivals lounge at the same time.

I think Amat has greater potential than anyone in our squad. The lad has absolutely bags of technical ability, with the right coaching he could develop into on of the best centre backs in the league, but he's still young and it will take a bit of time. |  | | |

Think it would be a massive mistake to let go of Jordi. We potentially have a player who could be a rock in our defence for the next decade, another Rangel perhaps. I know Kyle B has his fans on here, but I've not seen anywhere near the potential he has compared to Amat.
A loan deal could be good for him, but is that going to turn his head and lead to him wanting away in the summer. My only thought is if Fernandez continues to build on his performances, someone like Arsenal might come in for him, so perhaps keeping him happy with a loan may be a good option. If it looks like Fernandez might be off in the summer, then I think next season one of Amat or Bartley could def step up. |  | | |

I think Amat is a better footballer on the ball than Bartley but Bartley is better in the air and stronger in the tackle.

Personally, I really don't want to see Jordi go, except on loan with a 24hr recall (if we can do that clause)
When he first came here, I thought he was a class act. I still think he's going to play as a regular for Spain.
Ash is a good captain, but recently he's been looking a bit off. Seems to be getting away with murder in the Penalty area as well. Can't be long before a ref hammers him. Or as he's being lucky, can't drop him? Can't really explain all that unless he's carrying an injury.
Kyle is an old fashioned CB, up for a battle if needed.
Jordi is more similar to Fede.
As others have said, is it possible to play Jordi as a RB? Think he has the skill and ball playing capabilities to do a real good job there. At least until the end of the season and we can get cover for Angel(or we get to keep Dwight uninjured!)
Sorry, if Angel is the question, Jazz doesn't appear to be the answer. At least to me anyway. But I'm not the manager, so it's just an opinion.

It's probably not a good idea to be discussing centre backs after a West Ham game. Ash always looks like a little boy and its pretty depressing to watch. He's too short to be effective against the likes of Carroll and Monk should have gone with Amat or Bartley. A big, bold decision I know, but the way Ash has been playing (and moaning) the right one in my opinion.
I would certainly like to see Bartley and Amat coming in for Ash more and more often. There's enough games in the season and it's important Monk keeps a happy, healthy squad where they all feel they have a genuine competitive chance of playing.
Some ridiculously harsh comments on Bartley in this thread. When Fede and Amat were injured he came in and let nobody down, in fact, it was very harsh he lost his place. All good signs in the central defensive positions if you ask me but I'd like to see Ash dropped here and there and others with a chance to show why maybe they could keep him out. |  |

I agree and Garry is going to have to deal with the problem of his best mate sooner rather than later or Amat will be wanting out. If we were to let him go now we would soon be looking for a young centre back in the, err, Amat mould.
Ash has been a sensational buy for us. Probably the best defensive decision Martinez has made in his career. But all good things come to an end and, whilst still a very good player, his levels have dropped this season. | |
