Anyone visit Brighton's old grounds? 09:51 - Sep 18 with 799 views1953Original

So anyone go to the Goldstone Ground or the Withdean (and didn't they okay somewhere else for a season?). The Goldstone was a proper old fashioned football ground and stood in the terraces there a few times. The Withdean was awful - went once and got sunburnt because there was no cover and another time we were so far from the goal, a mist descended and we missed the winning (and only) goal at the far end!!

Went to both a few times. The Goldstone was in Hove close to the railway station, and a bit of a mess by the time they left it. Didn't they go to Gillingham for a bit? Or Charlton? Can't remember.

The Withdean was beyond awful. The time we won there in the promotion season (on TV) was the only time we ever so much as scored there, I think.

I went to the old Goldstone Ground on many occasions mid 70's to early 80's, when visiting my Uncle who was a Brighton fan. Sadly never saw Pool play there tho.

Very well suported then, as they were on the up, think Alan Mullery was manager, then Brian Horton??

Went with my Uncle away to watch Brighton at, Northampton, when they shared the ground with the Cricket Club (three sides only) & a very scary visit to the Old den, seeing "Traetment" (if you need to ask, you don't need to know) & Harry the dogs mobs, we were escorted by the SPG to & from the ground. Also my only visit to mold Traford was watching BHA... in the old Div 1

They have been through some dark times after the Goldstone was sold (& is now a retail/industrial unit..) they did go to Gillingham for a couple of years before the embarasment that was the Withdean. So thinkon, our current troubles are unprecedented, but pretty small potatoes to what some supporters have had to deal with...

Always have a soft spot for BHA, & look how its come together for them now, possibly the best stadium outside & including most of... the prem. I sad to admit I watched it being bulit on a near daily basis, via webcam...

& dont forget the superb new training facilities too..

Ah to dream eh??

I'm a Donkey on the Edge!!!.

Went to the Goldstone once and it made the old Bloomfield Road look smart.

As for the Withdean, went twice, the first time I couldn't find where the bus was to get back to the car park which seemed miles away, as has been previously commented on the stand was at the end of the ground was a mile away from the pitch and a temporary uncovered affair.

Looking forward to our vist on Saturday.

I visited the Withdean - must have been at the start of one of the seasons - the seats had been in the sun all day and we had to remove clothing to sit on the seats otherwise we would have burnt ourselves. It was one of the hottest days I've experienced as a football fan (alongside QPR away) and the weird thing is I couldn't tell you the score or how we played but remember the hot seats!! Anyone else?

I went to the Withdean when we beat Brighton 3-0 in our play off season - pretty sure it was a televised game and it was on a beautiful Sunday lunchtime?
