Saints Game Off
Friday, 13th Mar 2020 11:52

Saints game at Norwich City has been called off and all Premier League games have been called until April 3rd

Saints will effectively have a whole Month off after the Premier League and League i & 2 decided to suspend all fixtures wit immediate affect until April 3rd and given that the predicted peak of the virus around a month's time there is no guarantee that they will resume then.

This will make it very difficult to finish the season which as I mentioned yesterday brings up several options but many more problems.

One answer might be if the season can be resumed late May and a six week mini season ending mid July, this would be possible assuming the Euros are cancelled, we could then push back next season to an early September start with a end of May finish.

If the season can be resumed and finished then the break now does benefit Saints in that we will have the likes of Nathan Redmond fully fit again and we could really use him with Djenepo suspended.

Ironically it could benefit alot of clubs who have had injury problems, as it increases the chances of them being available and fit when the season does resume - McGinn at Villa, Kane and Son at Spurs, etc

It doesn't help all of the lower league clubs financially though

To be totally honest I'd be fairly comfortable with just writing this season off. I'm guessing Bournemouth would agree with that too. Liverpool might not, but hey I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Lovely thought bstoke but I would have thought declaring every remaining match a draw would be the more likely (and fairer) response. If reports that the virus will peak in June are true then I don't see a 'mini-season' happening.

I’d take that SM on the basis that we’d not have to fret anymore. I’m sure the bottom 3 would argue the toss though, especially on the basis that some of them would have played harder games to date and had an easier run in. Will be interesting scenario.
