Club Warn About Posting Pictures Of Wembley Tickets On Social Media
Tuesday, 14th Feb 2017 13:39

Southampton Football Club have issued a warning to supporters about the perils of putting a picture of your Wembley ticket up on social media.

The arrival of the first batch of tickets for the League Cup Final landed on the doormats of Saints fans this morning and immediately happy recipients were putting up pictures of the tickets on Facebook and other social media sites.

However doing this is not as innocent as it sounds and the club has taken the step of warning fans not to do this.

The club have warned that ticket touts can use these images to give the impression that these seats are for sale and can defraud people out of money by promising to sent a numbered ticket and seat to an unsuspecting buyer.

This could of course lead that buyer to complain to the authorities that the seller of that seat has been trying to resell it at a price over and above the face value.

But perhaps the most important issue with putting a ticket image up on social media and one not mentioned by the club is that by making the barcode visible, in this modern age of electronic ticketing, in extreme cases someone could print off a picture of the ticket and attempt to gain entry using a print out of the barcode, that would mean the actual ticket holder would turn up to find that his ticket has already been "used" to gain entrance.

So when you get your ticket, if you really have to show the world on social media make sure that the seat number etc and especially the barcode are not visible and indeed cannot even be seen albeit backwards or similar.

If you have already put your ticket up then I would suggest that the post is deleted very quickly.

Well said - the touts are evil scum of the earth and don't give them ANY chance to ruin your or anyone else's day...

...but it would teach them a lesson and therefore serve the lucky so-and-so's right in my view ;-)

It is a sad reflection of our society today that there are so many young people who just do not understand the dangers posed to themselves by being so open with personal information on social media. The Club were quite right to highlight a potential problem, you can never have too may warnings.
