Saints Midfielder Set For Move To Turkey (Or Merseyside)
Thursday, 18th Aug 2016 14:03

According to the latest press reports Turkish club Galatasaray are set to bid for a member of the Saints midfield.

Galatasaray are about to mount a bid for Saints midfielder Jordy Clasie according to media outlet Fotospor.

The Turkish club have seemingly failed in their bid for Liverpool midfielder Lucas leiva and are now set to turn their attentions to Clasie.

The Dutch midfielder was an unused substitute for the opening game against Watford which would appear to leave him fifth in the pecking order for three central midfield places.

Ronald Koeman was a confirmed admirer of Clasie but whether Claude Puel has the same opinion is yet to be seen.

Clasie had a mixed season last year, an injury in the first competitive game of the season against Vitesse at St Mary's meant that he did not have a full pre season and was always playing catch up, however in the second half he began to show why Koeman rated him so highly.

Galatasaray however are seemingly well short of Saints valuation of the player, Fotospor claim that they are willing to bid £3 million which is way short of the £8 million that Saints paid just over a year ago.

That could open the door for Everton to pop in a bid, they have the money and Koeman would be keen to be reunited with his protegy, in today's inflated market Saints would be looking to make a profit on Clasie and the Toffee's have the cash.

From a Saints perspective I personally would rather see him stay at the club, he is a quick passer of the ball and would perhaps suit Puel's system.

Even if he's lower in the pecking order its quite vital that we don't lose any more players. Need depth if we're serious about competing in Europe as well as aiming for a decent finish in the premier league. Any more players out will leave us seriously stretched.

I agree with Dan. Classie showed glimpses last season of why we bought him and I was looking forward to seeing him in his 2nd season. Also we have no need to sell, and have plenty in the 'kitty' to fund any purchase deemed necessary.

I personally think we have a good enough squad already, especially if Austin can get fit and sharpened up. All this talk of a new striker: in Redmond, Long, Tadic, Austin, J-Rod there are 40-50 goals. I think VVD will get 8-10 this season as well, he looks a serious threat at set pieces and has one hell of a shot on him. 10 more from the rest of the squad and that is an impressive tally, Score an average of 1.5 and concede less than 1 and we will have another memorable season.

Yippeeee time to get some money back for a complete failure in the premier league. RK gave him a chance (and it cost us many points and a place in the CL) and slowly it dawned on RK that he wasn't very good and he dropped him.

If he stays and gets a game it's like playing with ten men. We have plenty of cover in this position, let him go.

Quality player. Hopefully gets far more game time this season.

Would much rather give him a chance to prove himself than see JWP week after week...nice kid but lacks creativity and scoring which we kind of require.

The only classy thing about Jordy last season was his name but we did see glimpses of talent towards the end of the season. He also started to display a bit of Harrison Reed type grit. He reminded me at times of a terrier after a pack of rats. Trouble is he's another tiny man and restricted height isn't good for us. Maybe he could stand on Harrison's shoulders and they could be classed (there's that word again) as one player. I'm being deprecating. I actually think he deserves a few more chances.

I would rather hear news of players coming in. I think Clasie deserves another season as he had injuries. I do tend to agree with Toronto about JWP.

Good player and as most have said showed promise in the second half of the season last year, would like to see him stay to see him continue that improvement but if he did go and we get a good fee then Reed who is a similar kind of player is just as good if not better than Clasie

That's another three points lost that can be attributed to Clasie. Will those be the points that we may need at the end of the season.
