Saints Have To Move On
Thursday, 9th Jul 2015 08:07

After losing out to Spurs for Toby Alderweireld Saints have to over fast and sign a replacement and then get over it.

It is something Saints supporters wont want to hear, but we are always going to lose out to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur when it comes to signing players, but because we have to lump it does not mean we have to like it.

That being the case it is no use crying over spilt ilk, we have to try and influence the things that we can change and work round the act that in today's modern game money talks and players are always going to look more at glamour and cash than opportunity.

The Southampton way remains unaltered, a year ago we though that the world had ended when Dejan Lovren followed his head to Liverpool, yet we prospered and there is no reason why we should not continue to do so even after losing Toby Alderweireld.

In truth although losing him was a blow, we should not overestimate his contribution too much, he only played around 2/3's of the games he could have and in those games he went off injured on several occasions, a loss yes ! a terminal blow no!

So now we have to move on and make those key signings that will ensure that the squad Is stronger than last season and can make it better than last.

Moving on for supporters is about understanding that progress is steady an measured rather than based on one event, it is all about what we do next now.

Next season can be great, it is what it is, deal with it and move on, that I the Southampton way, whilst the Spurs way is pay big money for players from elsewhere and see their career stagnate.

Hi Nick I've been reading TUI for years but never commented. Thanks for all your hard work over the years. I really enjoy reading everyone's view even if I don't necessarily agree with them

If TA didn't want to play for us, which he didn't, that is it. End of. Get the compensation due off Athletico and move on.

I'm just hoping with JRod back and signed, the other strikers more settled after a year we get more out of them early season and this gives the first choice defence time and space to heal up, the new players to settle in and we can really push on in mid season which is where we faltered last year.

This time last year it was doom and gloom. This time, at least we know who has/is definitely gone/going and who we need. Looking better than last year in my opinion.

Chill out, we haven't lost our best defender. Jose is still the man and you know Koeman knows another few gems hiding in the Dutch/Spanish/Portugese leagues. It will all be sound, they will go for centre back and centre mid as soon as Morgan moves next week.

You'll see me at the car boot sale Sunday selling all the toys most of you have thrown from the pram! Did you learn nothing from last season?

My opinion for what it is worth, is that there is we are not panicking, perhaps even gald that Toby hasn't signed and we're £1.5m better off. We all bang on about how Ron brings on the young, well we have THREE yes 3 of the most sought after and highly rated young centr backs in the county, Jack Stephens, yes the same Jack Stephens that a certain Mr. Koeman made captain last night, surely that says something. Jordan Turnbull on loan at Swindon with JS and voted palyer of the season. Both helped Swindon to the play offs and played at Wembley. Finally Jason McCarthy ever present for the U19s and England. It is also said the Matt Targett plays very well at CB too.

Any of those lucky enough to play alongside Jose Fonte will surely grow to Prem standard rapid time.

Lovren was great so Was Toby, but were thay brilliant? were they the best we've ever had, were they irreplaceable?

Have faith in the board #wemarchon #coyr

My concern here isn't so much about the loss of Toby it's about the impact it has on Koeman.

A manager of his ability and stature will eventually want away from a club that can't hold onto to its best players as how do you build season on season and achieve anything. At a point Koeman will ask does the clubs (boards) ambitions match mine. Top players will ask the same, at what point does Fonte start thinking this?

This season PL campaign is going to be tough due to the additional European games, most clubs struggle to do well in both. So physocolgically it was important we kept the group together this summer And Toby was a key figure.

Personally I think we should have made Madrid an offer they couldn't refuse at the end of last season - $8.6m + $1.5 = 10.1m if we'd gone in with $12m and offered Toby $50-$60k a week both would have taken it, yet we act like a small club with restricted finance and then get what we deserve....... There are tens of millions in surplus TV and transfer profits sloshing around in this club.

This was a missed opportunity.

All arguments are futile. Football is Religion. You either have faith or you don't. Those with faith will not convince those without it and vice versa.

There's only one Katherina Liebherr and there's only one Ronald Koeman.
I have faith.

At the end of the day, all will become apparent by May 2016.
In the meantime I'm smiling and intend to stay that way.
Am I a Happy Clapper? No they believe in an ancient superstition and I believe in football.

Off to Rotterdam soon and the journey continues. I can't wait.

How more naive and two faced can you get! Now he's gone he's the AntiChrist! If he wasn't wanted or was thought to be that injury prone we wouldn't have offered 14.2 m for him. Now, in desperation, the measured, ethical ' Southampton Way' has gone tits up and we are embarassing ourselves by (reportedly) trying to steal Ogbonna from an agreed deal with West Ham! Those of us not over affected by narcotics have been warning about the way things have been going for a while and have been labelled as neggies. Well if having half a brain is 'neggy' then I'm o.k with it! GROW UP!

Keeping on topic I'd just like to say I am not bothered about compensation but I would like the facts to come out and FIFA take the appropriate action. It would be a shame if AM/Spurs got thrown out of their leagues for being naughty but I could live with it.
Classy of Toby to text Ronald his thanks.

Well ain't that just the cherry on the cake IWOZTHERE. Im afraid you got the wrong half of the brain. If it upsets you that much then you should find something that makes you happy.

Football is supposed to be entertainment or have I got that wrong?
