Hayes Working Men's Club family bar on a Sunday lunch after playing football. Dad would let me have a pint of shandy at around 13 and by 16 it was lager and lime; mum often surprised how sleepy i was after my football exertions when spending the afternoon napping on the sofa.
other than that it was in the pub with mates at the weekend from 15; being 6'5" i was sent to the bar to act grown up. How the hell we got served is a mystery, other than them not giving a sh*t. Then the Brook House (or Kings as it was briefly during the fledgling days of MTV) by 16; looked like our school's youth club on a Friday and Saturday.
fell asleep; missed middle 40 minutes so don't think i actually missed anything
very drab; and why Henderson is even in the squad is a mystery to me.
Gibbs-White has been outstanding for Florist and needs blooding in. Henderson has been a very good player, but surely is past it now; particularly given there is someone there ready to play that position.
The 'problem' , for me, is with TT having a relatively short contract and just wanting to win the WC is he'll take the very shirt term view. If he does win it, then he's a genius..... many more games like last night and ultimately failure and there will be a different view of his reign
managing a football club is not a popularity contest; otherwise Neil would probably never have got a job.
but to have managed so many tinpot clubs and achieved promotions or staved off relegations (in our case, both, in consecutive seasons) over the course of decades in the game, means he will leave a legacy as a top class manager.
abrasive, dodgy, rude, self centred........ applies to many of the most successful managers.
i have nothing but fond memories of Warnock's time in charge of us; that period gives me loads of stand out memories that i'll cherish for ever.
anyone who could harness the mental that was Taraabt and convince a team including Sean Derry and Clint Hill to support that lunatic, rather than throttle him after training has something special about him. Let's never underestimate what he achieved for us.
Then thrown under the bus by the F1 crowd when he needed some support to strengthen the squad.
this pub is along the Uxbridge Road towards Acton; very good food and nice home crowd vibe; try and book a table if you think it's not too far from the ground/tube
