The midfield three complement each other well plus its good the way Morgan has the security of Field and Varane if he loses possession. That said, his decision making is pretty good and his mobility and desire to run into unchartered territory gives him a clear edge over Madsen. |

True. I also thought Kolli went head to head with them very well and won good free kicks. Credit to the attacking players for giving us good as they got. Real courage through our team today. [Post edited 1 Jan 18:04]

For the second home game in succession we've played a team who have been markedly bigger than us, who thought they could kick us off the ball, but who we have stood up to and fought our corner against. So well done Marti and all the players (especially the smaller ones) for punching above your weight. Maybe if Paul Heckingbottom and Tom Cleverly spent less time training their players to kick out and then fall over then they might be a bit better at defending soft goals. |

I agree. Frustrating that we signed these players given that we have been here before but I guess those responsible were not around ten years ago when we got our fingers burned. Say what you will about Sir Les but I don't remember him being responsible for too many players who looked so out of their depth. |

Agreed. I know which one out of Marti and the goon I would prefer to have at the helm. Anyway Sant Marti looks tired. He needs a San Miguel. |

We have got to the transfer window clear of the bottom three. Some astute wheeling and dealing and we should be OK. However, I don't agree with Marti when he says he is happy with the squad and I believe we need to try to trade 5 members of the squad this month if we are going to make any year-on progress this year. |

Agree with that but Marti would have got pelters if he had omitted him after his game against Preston, especially if it had been for Hamlet (the Danish Ghost) |

I think the answer in the next game is to go 5 at the back - so by default, Dunne, JCS and Fox centre backs, Ashby and Paal wing backs and Santos on the bench. Field and Varane are good enough to give us something in centre mid and then a front three from Frey, Chair, Kolli, Smyth, Saito, Morgan etc etc etc with the best option being Frey, Chair and Smyth. That would be my gameplan. [Post edited 26 Dec 2024 21:05]

He is a class above any other central midfielders that I have seen in any opposition teams at LR. I know its like comparing apples with pears but for me he is up there with Barry Bannan for technique. |

I'm a little surprised we are still debating this. The guy has been under more scrutiny than Donald Trump. |
| Forum Thread | Have we ever had a wider range of quality in the squad ? at 10:43 22 Dec 2024
Not quality in absolute terms, but range, from our best players to our worst. I can never think of a time when there was such a big disparity. 75/76 - all good, obviously 82 - all good Promotion under Warnock - all good Premiership under Hughes - all pants Relegation under Wilkins - all pants Gigi de Canio/Gregory (all OK - apart from the odd blip - Zesh Reyman, Bob Malcolm) Scowuongoman years - all good The only time I can remember is when we went down under Gerry (and Ollie) when we had the likes of Crouchie and Gavin Peacock in the same team as Wardley, Christer Warren, Paul Bruce Can anyone else remember a time when we had players so far off the mark like Santos, Madsen, Andersen, Ashby in a squad with such quality as in Nardi, Cook, Field, JCS, Varane, Kolli etc etc ? He was good. There was a bit of thrust about him plus he knew how to play right mid. A bit like Martin Allen. |
| Forum Reply | Most dramatic fall at 15:54 20 Dec 2024
I'd say Johansen and Austin rather than Johansen and Dickie. Dickie and Dunne were the only players who put in creditable performances when we started sliding at the end of that season and Austin just looked like a frustrated Sunday morning League footballer when he couldn't even get in ahead of Andre Grey. |

I'm approaching the Chair on the second circuit. I've unseated my rider and am in danger of going off the rails but put me down as a 11/4 odds on to come to the natural finish. [Post edited 19 Dec 2024 1:14]

Possibly, but what is the alternative ? Long balls forward down the throats of defenders or onto the heads of strikers who can't get anyone in behind because of the off-side rule. I don't think playing it out from the back is boring, per se. In fact, it has me on the edge of my seat when we do it. Playing it across the back yes, but out from the back, no. In my opinion. |
| Forum Reply | QPR v Bristol City match thread at 21:39 15 Dec 2024
Yes, it sticks with Chair but Saito has much more attacking intent and I guess mis-control is the price that you have to pay for that (Alfie Lloyd being the prime example). I think given what we need to be doing right now Saito and his propensity to drive forward (albeit at the expense of losing the ball more often) is more what we need. [Post edited 15 Dec 2024 21:41]
