IIRC, when Dunne was shifted to the right, he was at a crossroad - if he failed to impress, that would be his end of it at that stage. But he did spectacularly after an initial bump and never looked back, made right back his position even ahead of players naturally playing in that position. And he was an outlet for goal kicks (Begovic was ropey) and also Dunne became an attacking aerial threat as well in free kicks and corners into the box and scored a few goals including that worldie versus Brum
Now that was partly down to the player but a major part was Marti’s willingness to experiment and gave Dunne a new lease of life at QPR. Would anyone have given him a contract extension before this miraculous change not to mention an improved terms at that. I think that answer is a resounding no.
Is he a loss, I bet you he will be, but in the short term at least for now in a few games where we as a team needs to recalibrate and give ourselves a new focus and confidence. If Dunne goes, he will be missed, but I am sure Marti will find a way to play without him and perhaps he could make another Dunne with one of squad player hitting a crossroad at this point in his career. EDB? Madsen? Not necessarily at right back though
Playing Edwards at right back tells me that position is a weak link and Dunne is 90% going, it could be Ashby starting if Dunne is not feeling 100%. They are trying out if Edwards could be playing Marti’s “Dunne” strategy.
Perhaps we might find another way rather that relying on Dunne as an attacking focus. I am sure Marti can conjure up something special. I credit Marti in transforming Dunne.
- QPR offered him a deal which he rejected - Returned to France to save his boyhood club which just got relegated - alleged family wanted to return to France to bring up young child - boyhood club then went bust, job gone - now in Saudi league playing in the sun, sand and money pot
Which makes me wonder was France his actual preferred destination? - No other French clubs came in for him? - Their offers couldn’t be worse that a relegated financial malaise club? - Other possible deals in England not good enough than the QPR offer? - Claim to want to raise family in France an excuse to save face? - Returned to Bordeaux as a pretence to be loyal to save boyhood club - no good offers came? - Now playing in Saudi league - show me the money? - his child I believe is still very young so happy to go Saudi for his upbringing?
All these speculations are just speculation but what I learned is money talk and anything else were just smokescreens, excuses and face saving exercises we don’t need to get too carried away arguing for.
I think Smyth is “better”, he had to beat the keeper close to the touch line, the angle and the time he had on the ball was more difficult to aim at goal so I am giving my vote to Smyth
We are such a painful watch at home. We have been very poor at home for a few seasons, just wondering are we the worst home team in the entire league of 92?
Can we do something about it? I mean how can we break this curse that has afflicted us for years once and for all?
We tried a new coach and signed some players, even a prodigious man-child CEO but nothing’s working at the moment.
Celar hasn’t score for 14 games. For Slovenia, 16 games without a goal
But his career stats up to now suggest he is a 3 in 1 striker, so for QPR and Slovenia it is an anomaly.
I will also suggest that the games for QPR and his national team were not all starting eleven but lots as a substitute and being substituted, so stats can give a skew picture
Let’s all hope for our sake he starts to score goals, and I think he will but we would’ve to give him time
Didn’t Marti, when he was questioned why Kolli wasn’t in the first team squad photo, mentioned that Kolli was asked but he couldn’t/ didn’t make it for the photo shoot. Can’t recall the reason why but the club did invite him.
