Much of that rings true, but Atom Valley isn't exactly embedded within Rochdale in the same way that Kingsway is

Another factor that's not been mentioned is the working environments the Ogden team are used to in their line of business. Spotland must seem, shall we say, "quaint" and if there's a viable opportunity to grasp the nettle and start afresh at a new-build stadium i'm pretty sure they'd be the first to look into it

On which note, if space could be found for a Dale move to Kingsway (and with the right will, there's additional space adjacent to the original footprint) their presence might just encourage higher-value tenants in due course

So why would those people who you claim wouldn't want to move close to Rochdale now, have done so back when Kingsway was being opened?

And if we emerge from this period of little football in good form, when should we start "throwing" games to avoid disasterous (sic) promotion? Wait till the playoffs?

I'd be very much in favour of a new stadium, with training and all other facilities envisaged by the Ogdens within the town. Plus, the sale of land at Spotland would greatly help with financing this. Local councils are being pressured to find places for new housing, and it's starting to encroach on Green Belt so i reckon they wouldn't put any obstacles in the way of this

The obvious place would be Kingsway. Sir Peter Ogden grew up near there, and for Hornets it'd be a return to their old stomping ground. It'd also be a way of attracting the attention of the townsfolk in a way that would be self-publicising - a new ground for a new era

Thanks for the revision, i appreciate facts

This gives the club even less leeway within the initial investment to sort the pitch out without significant impact upon the other initiatives, not just team-building. This is something we can all be legitimately interested in; it's not being 'awkward' or over-inquisitive to do so

My question referred to "how" the pitch refurb will be funded, not by whom

The answer to that is perfectly obvious, so why raise it?

When the Ogdens took over, c.9 million ordinary £1 shares were issued, an amount which was presumably carefully calibrated to provide stability and an initial small boost to team-building alongside other projects

What would be of legitimate interest is whether there's sufficient leeway within that initial stabilising funding of the club to cover the refurb or whether the Ogdens may be obliged to add to that amount

The answer would come in due course, when the next financial accounts are published to shareholders (or further shares are issued). In the meantime, it'd help explain any reticence in funding the team or other initiatives, which is why transparency is often the better option

Hope that clears the January fog for you

That begs the question then: why raise the issue of how work on the pitch will be funded?

My post was in reply to your question; "Who do you think will be covering the cost...?"

You're now suggesting the club shouldn't provide that info, so why even ask?

Wouldn't it just be easier if the club, in the same spirit of open communication, just told us?

Why should anyone but a Biffo be worried?

Isn't it to Dale's advantage if they have a fixture pile up (and we're not far off one)

It'd be wiser (i think) to call our current 'project' Project 3000

Then take it from there

First use of the word "venerable" that i can recall on the forum

But yeah, feels important that we've got through and paying due respect to our current status

He's 55 now, after a career spanning nearly four decades during which he's been earning above-average wages for most of that time. There may also be legacy (family) income

There's a view that X-amount of money is required to live a reasonable lifestyle, but if he's mortgage-free and has looked after his money there's no reason to suspect he'll be anything other than 'comfortable' by now

If he really needed to work, i've no doubt he'd be able to find it in some capacity (other than occasional radio work) even if perhaps in a lesser role than he's been used to. It therefore depends on what you mean by "need to work"

Yeah, we know that

It must, however, never be used as an excuse for complacency going forward. In fact, just the opposite

I've said it before, but it looks to me as if SG has fed his co-chair with his own line on the fanbase. It'll take something major for us to change that

My earlier comment was, of course, tongue in cheek

I'm not even sure that, having been tasked by his father with stabilising the club and putting a business plan in place to move towards Dale becoming a true community club, CO understands the community. His life from birth has been very different from his father's. That's no criticism whatsoever (how can it be?) but simply a reflection on how a disconnect can occur

The question is: what can be done to change that? I've referenced the way in which the Golden Share issue impacts upon all this. It needs to happen, and whilst the Trust obtained an answer to my question by way of "being written into the articles of association" and "consulting other clubs who've done this" how long does that take? It could - and should - have happened by now. The takeover by the Ogdens took much less time

It's just badly worded, but it reads as if the club are answering a question on behalf of the Trust

Definitely not a Freudian slip
