Good game today with a very dodgy case of premature ejaculation. And not just those Vale fans who were kicked out before the game had even started.

Can see why Vale are up there. There a big team, who work hard. Nowt flash, but any side up against them will know they've been in a game against them. Thought we were very good at the back against them, apart from two moments and Vale took full advantage. Their lad Griffiths was very good indeed. But equally I can see why Hill says the division has gone back ten years.

I thought we battled well. The pitch was everything Phil Brown said it was, and we went direct perhaps more than I've seen a Hill side do before. Cav was great in the middle, and there must be a few of the squad who have changed Hill's mind. A few weeks ago we were expecting and hoping for a clear out. Now, this side could start in August, and I'd be happy.

Shame to see Grimes kick out. Thats two saturdays on the trot we've had the petulance, and all the excuses of wrong position, miserable side, not given a chance count for absolutely nothing. If the Rotherham deal isn't already done, he may well have cost himself a deal for next season.

Good to see two young lads come on towards the end. There's promise there. The future's bright, and it will be great to see the success of the Youth team being more than just a trip to Notts Forest.

But ultimately the equaliser says it all about us at the moment. Whilst the Vale fans were looking for gaps to invade the pitch, we never gave up at a time we had every reason to do so. On paper, we're seeing out the season and were simply the hosts to the Vale promotion party. Don't tell Keith that :-)

Donnelly seemed to stretch his leg towards the end of the game and could have sustained a groin injury because he didn't run much after that.

Hope he's ok for the rest of the season, otherwise we will have to put Gornell on test. And for me it's not looking good for Gornell next season at the Dale.

KH said he is definitely going to play Collis in the remaining matches to see how he performs as he will be available at the end of the season.

Jesus saves but Beasley scores off the rebound.

Not having a go here middale, but it sounds like the type of comment that an armchair premiership watcher might make. Not saying that's what you are, but that's the type of thing you hear from them!

Today was the very lifeblood of watching lower league football. What was lacking in refined technique was made up for with sheer atmospheric drama. If it could be put in a bottle, I'd do so and take it with me to every game!

Agreed!

A few years ago, the father of a friend of mine asked why I didn't support United. I gave him the usual prawn sandwich brigade spiel, before he said "Yeah, but you put up with all that for an extra bit of quality."

Quality doesn't always = entertainment though does it?

The quality of play today wasn't great, but the drama and the entertainment levels were high indeed. Great game.

Tangled up in blue.

I think both are on non contract terms, both relitively experienced in their respective positions, Thomas is a full back/centre back. Collis is a 'keeper.

I thought that Hill set the blueprint for how lower league football should be in his first spell. IMO that's what it's all about, not all this get stuck in/scrap/battle etc etc. Yes do all of that but remember to football the opposition to death as well. We didn't today and the Dale of a few years back would have really shown Vale up for the neanderthals they are.

By the way I'm not a Premier League fan - have seen a couple of Blue Square Premier games in the last couple of weeks and they were even more route one.

I've made pretty much the same point in another thread - that the standard of football produced by our promotion team was way ahead of what was on display - from Port Vale as the promotion outfit but yes, from us too.

But lets remember - we're a work in progress. Hill's had this set of lads for just a few weeks. To come back after conceding so late on in the game is testament to how much we have to look forward to, as well as putting the Vale mob back in their box!

That's what was on display this afternoon, and it seems unjust for anyone to cavil at it.

A good game today and a good atmosphere. Thought we competed well against a promotion side and it shows the Hill influence is coming through. Everyone had a good game but Cav and SCS were notable in their high work rate at the back.

We have trouble with crosses that needs work. about four new players should see a decent next season. Worth the entrance money for the own goal...

Well done to all the players today. U.T.D

This quality of play is proper football for the proper fans, its hardly ever pretty, but if you want that, go join the Man city bandwaggon an such, this is the level that a lot of good premier talent started out, and it isnt fabricated like the PL.

Yes that's fair comment about work in progress. I was just a bit disappointed having missed the last few victories (I travel up from Birmingham + last game I saw was Morecambe away) - thought we might really show Vale up.

Morecambe away was a watershed. We've lost one in nine since then with massive improvements.

Yes, your're right Col it is Thomas. I knew he was referring to the defender but I just got the names mixed up.

Sounds like a good idea. As mentioned, we do lack height and presence at the back when defending corners. At 6ft 2 ins and built like a brick s. h. he could be a possible answer to our problem.

Oxford v Dale seems to be the only dead rubber in League 2 next Saturday, save for jostling for league positions, so Hill might well give the likes of Thomas a run out.

.....both teams have nothing to play for other than higher position.

Ideal opportunity to blood some of the youngsters and give some a rest.

BBM's finale?

Need to win the last home game though, full team out for that one!

That game might still have something on it for Plymouth if they don't get much out of Chesterfield and Rotherham this week.

In the updated article in DJ's thread, it states that more than 3000 tickets were sold to Vale

The original figure quoted was 2900, but I thought there looked to be more than that number (although it's notoriously difficult to tell, especially when sections of the seating are closed off).

Anyone know the precise away attendance?

Just as an aside, with one game to go, the current average attendance for league games is 2355 - not bad, all things considered.

Would hope that Plymouth bring a few (particularly if they need something from the game) so hopefully the average might nudge up a little bit.

However I think the board need to aspire / plan / work hard to getting that average up to 3000 next season - definitely achievable with Hilly in charge.

(Are we expecting an announcement today? Believe Hilly was meeting with CD to hopefully agree and sign off the contract?

Talking about Plymouth ,i did notice a very large following on the Football League show away at Burton on Saturday looked to be at least 1750 if not more ?
So perhaps if things go wrong over the next week or so we could be seeing a large turnout Saturday week.
Saturday was one of the highlights of the last two seasons ,and the buckets back were they belong ,lets hope they have a horrid season and suffer more pain next season !!
Also Stockport in a very dodgy position ...Relegation again ????
