Bury in deep dodo on 09:45 - Apr 11 by MoonyDale | From what I am led to believe they own the ground and the training ground, perhaps something could be done with a sale of either/both. Could be their only hope, we await today's press conference... |
Can you just sell your ground though ? Its ok if you are relocating and building a new stadium but I'm sure the football league will have rules about having somewhere to play? I know Brighton and Rotherham both played elsewhere recently but did both have definate plans to relocate eventually?

The ground could be sold and then leased back for a number of years, giving time to find an alternative place to play. If they can find an interested party who would accept those conditions of course..

Bury in deep dodo on 11:32 - Apr 11 with 1667 views | SuddenLad | Desperate days indeed, reading the last couple of posts. That said, how on earth can the current Board make an urgent request for funds and at the same time promise potential investors a return on their money ? Football clubs are notoriously bad for expecting financial returns, particularly outside the top flight. Perhaps those investors will be collectively purchasing the ground, fixtures and fittings for their money and will presumable benefit from any subsequent sale of same when (if) a larger, longer-term beneficiary steps up to the plate. A risky strategy if ever there was one. Short term investment for a long-term gain or quick bucks ? I can't see any other way that anyone can make money from throwing £100,000 at a twitching corpse of a football club.

That's an utter disgrace. If the Bury fans didn't know beforehand how little respect the Board have for their supporters, they certainly know now. Leaving Kevin Blackwell in that situation to face the media unsupported and without issuing a prior statement is pathetic.

Bury in deep dodo on 13:22 - Apr 11 with 1499 views | gigger | There is some kind of old contract which says the ground can only be sold or demolished as long as the land is only used for sporting purposes. It was given by lord derby yonks ago. Just read that our ex director mark catlin been named new Portsmouth managing director. He was the best thing for bury for years, created loads of ticket deals and was really interested in what fans had to say. He left 6 months ago because of an argument over a Fenton decision and we've gone down hill ever since..

I would be devastated if we went under even if I pretend I'm not bothered. I've not been to as many matches as I used to but I've been a season ticket holder for 20 years. I've only been to 2 away matches this year brentford and Crawley purely for a good day out. I honestly don't know what's going to happen. What I think will happen is we will just manage to scrape thru summer try and fail to get some decent home friendlys and be very very desperate for third rate cast offs for next season. I.e ex accy and morecambe and non league players. Blackwell has stated in todays bury times he's not willing to play youth players so players like Tom Pratt who's scored more goals in a bury shirt than anyone this season has no chance. It would be nice to think clubs like united and city wouldn't let a small local club go bust !!!

As I was saying to a 'journalist' on twitter yesterday. If Man United or Man City come in and give some money to help save the club, it sends a message to other clubs in the area that it's OK to overspend. If they do it for you, what's to stop us overspending next season to gain promotion, as when it comes back to bite us, we can just go running to the big boys. It's unfair if they're to give you a hand out like that. (Always sceptical of people who have the word 'journalist' in their name on twitter. Very often it means they just have a blog. I actually have a fairly well paid part-time job in the field but still wouldn't refer to myself as a journalist just yet.)

Those comments make sense. It would breed an irresponsible attitude in smaller clubs and the bigger clubs would be inundated in future. Was talking to a bury supporter today who agrees that nobody will invest until the current crop of directors who have learned nothing over the last 10-15 years fook off. In his words, "Would you give your hard earned money to a beggar who you know immediately goes to the nearest offy and pisses the money away on booze?" Sums the situation up perfectly for me

Bury in deep dodo on 15:22 - Apr 11 with 1255 views | ColDale | they are still not dealing with reality http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22107343 they are blaming this on the drop in crowds. Now based on our last set of accounts, I think our gate receipts fell from £900,000 to £800,000 from Hill's last season to the Eyre / Coleman season. Now that's a worrying drop, but it shows that we could have made it free entry all season and we still wouldn't have needed to beg for £1,000,000. I don't doubt that a drop in crowds has hit them, but the severity of this debt would suggest that the drop in crowds will be at the very, very most 25% of the money that they are asking for.

Am I alone in thinking that there is even more to be disclosed at Giggle Lane before the full saga is known ? Oh, and well done for using the word 'reality' in a post relating to Bury. Not often that they are used in relation to each other when discussing their finances.

that's a load of horse(beef) sh*t, our attendances are similar to that of bury, and following a relegation, and we aren't clambering for 100k investors. they need to get their head out of the sand, and start dealing with the real issues, not taking the easy option of blaming it on attendances. Since when have bury ever had big attendances anyway? this is something that is the 'work' of years of financial mismanagement coming home to roost
