Read Normandy 1944 and you'll realise that the Yanks did play an enormous role as Monty was too slow |  |

I've also never seen godfather/s. don't really have a favourite as such either, afew of mine would have to be: drive, blade runner, breakfast club, the daywatch-night watch series. And of course aliens. Edit - forgot donnie darko

Less experiences forces made more rapid gains (Americans notably) but at vastly increased cost. Montgomery's troops had been fighting for the better part of 4 years by June 1944 , from Egypt to Sicily, back to UK for a refit and then into Normandy. I don't think we should blame them for being less than enthusiastic. | | | |

Absolutely 49th!
Anyone who watched the recent series about Tank Men (the campaigns in Egypt & Normandy) will understand that by 1944 our lads were mentally and physically exhausted, fighting within death-traps designed by idiots which were vastly inferior to the German tanks. We'd already given our all, firstly in trying to defend France from invasion, fighting back on multiple fronts (with the Russians) to wear down the Nazi machine, before the Yanks deigned to get involved to clear things up after being goaded by Pearl Harbour (thanks Japan!) and claim the glory. Yes, they had heroic soldiers who fought and died alongside us, but we'd been doing that for years whilst they sat back and piled up their fortunes whilst we inherited a war debt that we still haven't managed to shake off.
