Not really. If a player decides not to go to the ANC because his club is in dire straights and he wants to stay and help then fair enough, as long as QPR are not pressuring him into doing that.
What gets me is when managers scout players at the ANC, sign them on the strength of their performances there, and then whinge about them going back to the ANC in future years and saying it should be held at a different time of the year - Allardyce is a sod for this. Similarly supporters who watch the ANC and say "he looks good, we should have a look at him" and then two years later say "WTF is he going to the ANC?" You should buy African players with your eyes wide open to the fact that they may not be available to you every other January and not moan about it or put pressure on them not to go. Same with Ryan Nelsen - we can't very well moan about him going to play for New Zealand when he's been quite open and honest about that throughout his career. If we thought it was going to be a problem we shouldn't have signed him. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

if we were mid table they could go with my blessing but we are in the poo big time and if we are going to stand any tiny chance of getting out of this mess we need everybody committed to the team

I don't think anybody has said that have they? We have players at this club like Taarabt, Mackie, Faurlin, seemingly Diakite, Nelsen who clearly do care, are putting the effort in, are doing their best. And we have players like Bosingwa, Park, Cisse, Zamora etc who are not performing anywhere near as they've shown they can in the past - this could be for many reasons, one of which most certainly could be a lack of commitment to a club they see as a bit small time and beneath them who they're not really bothered about.
It's a bit simplistic to suggest that the entire team is a bunch of mercenaries and doesn't give a stuff, and it's incorrect to make out like anybody is saying that.
At the moment the balance is wrong between the players who are young, committed to the club and see QPR as a big opportunity, and the older pros who have achieved everything in the game and probably aren't going to muck in and do whatever it takes to get QPR to succeed. We have too many of the latter and not enough of the former. | | | |
