Another Injury Update 13:18 - Dec 10 with 2682 viewsOldPedro

Latest club injury update:

We are delighted to confirm Ilias Chair, Michael Frey and Jake-Clarke Salter are recovering well from their respective injuries and will return to matchday squads before the festive period.

Jack Colback continues to work through the pitch-based phase of his rehabilitation plan following the first surgery of his professional career, and is expected to return soon.

Kader Dembele continues to make good progress during the early phase of his rehabilitation following his successful knee surgery.

Unfortunately, Žan Celar faces a period of time on the sidelines following a hamstring injury sustained against the Canaries. The Performance Services department are currently working through early medical processes to ensure he is on the correct rehabilitation path and a further update on his timelines will be provided in due course.

Kenneth Paal came off at half-time on Saturday due to a feeling of tightness. The defender is anticipated to be available for selection this week.

Unfortunately their service appears to have been experiencing technical difficulties all season. What with the brains of the operation in Dubai an' all...

Are we over saying that we are surprised we are getting actual updates now and instead grateful that Nourry and co. were not too stubborn to realise when they made a bad decision?

It’s definitely positive if this becomes a regular thing (weekly). I’d like them to specify games players are likely to return for so the fans know who to expect in the team and can tailor their own expectations accordingly pre-kick off; helps with the atmosphere.

But this is definitely a step in the right direction. Hopefully signs of a broader change in comms strategy. Let’s see.

Personally, I think they might want to be a little less earnest about this whole “Performance Department” stuff; it’s the fitness coaches, physio, and club doctor with a fancy 3rd party platform and data from the sports bras they wear. It’s ripe (and right) for p*ss taking and makes them all sound like they believe in their own importance.

Pretty sure Cifuentes and the players are responsible for the first team’s “Performance”.

Did they try to organise a secret santa or something?

This is a good point. Credit where credit is due, I have been very concerned about Nourry, but rectifying a mistake is a good sign. Maybe being young he is more malleable and open to change? Long may it continue.

That's a very long winded way of saying JCS, Chair and Frey will be in the squad for the Preston game. Celar is fcked and Dembele is back March.

Reading the update I felt similarly. Good to see it but actually, it says very little.

Have no evidence of this but I get the impression that Ruben, Riley and Hoos stepped in in those meetings 3 weeks ago and put changes in place .
Since those meetings were held , MC has looked energised and happier, when I thought he was a gonna if I’m honest. The team has pulled together much more than they were previously and vocally (as well as on the pitch )are now more supportive of the coach, when there was all sorts of rumblings before. There has been injury updates for fans that are detailed and informative not just thrown together , and Kolli was immediately placed back into the squad (Stoke at home) to stop that void from growing deeper and darker. Who knows maybe he signed a contract ?
It’s lead to happier place and positive results on the pitch …if so?

It’s a big if, admittedly . Just a theory

I'm inclined to agree with this, however my cynical side is also questioning whether we'd have got these updates if we didn't have so many injuries, as its needed to provide an excuse and claim they were all unavoidable, as they said in the first update. I suspect that if we just had a couple of injuries like everyone else, we probably wouldn't have heard anything and if Frey and Celar were still fit, Kolli may still be out of the picture.

I can't believe Nourry has had a change of heart, either he's covering his arse or he's been told to do it from above.

They ARE important, though - as Marti himself has recently been underlining, albeit so vaguely/generally as to be more frustrating than illuminating (and probably to take the heat off himself as much as anything by making little more than a symbolic statement).

If only football clubs like ours would wash at least a little of their dirty linen in public (arguments, disagreements, proposals/counter-proposals on how things are being done/shouldn't be done/should be done etc.), everything would be so much more healthily ventilated, and we fans would feel engaged and informed rather than snarled up in snippy exchanges between the ITKers and the mystified majority.

Agreed, though, these injury updates feel like counter-cultural manna from heaven, so I'm pathetically grateful for small mercies!

Poll: What points will we get from our 'Festive 3' (Swansea A, Norwich A, Watford H)?
