Is Clive Myrie too " careless" to be a big earner? 20:05 - Dec 4 with 784 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I have just done my tax and to help keep stress low I have been vigorous to the nearest penny with my return. Clive it appears missed a reported £145k of his earnings in this report £65k elsewhere. He has acted quickly to apologize and declare he will no longer do this outside work. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn4xzrjv0zno.amp They live on a different planet to me.

The BBC has not acted on complaints about a programme it commissioned. Myrie obviously doesn't think getting his declarations correct is important, then there is the nonsense around Huw Edwards, it smells like a loosely run organisation as opposed to one run tightly. https://www.itv.com/news/2024-12-02/who-knew-about-allegations-of-inappropriate-

I have to submit expenses monthly, I complete a ethics return quarterly including gifts, potential conflicts of interest and reportable incidents including any risks and issues I have raised/accepted with internal departments and external bodies etc. If I don't submit my returns Audit and Risk alert my manager, governance is tight and everybody accepts it as important.

That’s a pretty tight regime to be fair, but if you omitted an entry from your monthly return would your employer be any the wiser? Where I previously worked, any gifts etc had to be reported immediately and permission sought to retain them, but there was a presumption we wouldn’t accept any gifts, hospitality etc. it was just too much hassle.

I don't really see much wrong with this. It seems to be an issue between employer and employee, there's no suggestion of conflicting interest or tax avoidance just a breach in employment T&C's. If it wasn't the BBC nobody would bat an eyelid. The been has surely got bigger things to worry about.

You employed him as a freelancer but did not do due dillegence checks on his past . Nice legal get out clause if proven . Lawyers rubbing their hands already waiting . Ant Mcpartlin of Ant and Dec fame , a proven drink driver is still on my telebox and lauded by millions of viewers on that jungle show nonsense . Owen Money on Radio Wales at weekends seems to be the only good guy in broadcasting . Add on Johnnie Walker too that very small list of my favourites these days . | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Well I could leave stuff out but if it got discovered I'd be straight down the disciplinary route as other have been. Risking your job for a few quid or having a operational failure as a result of ignoring risks are just not worth it. I'm happier doing as professional job as I can.

"No suggestion of Tax avoidance". That is s debatable. £145,000 not declared? If he did not declare it to his accountants for submission to the BBC then they would not have declared it for HMRC either by implication. I am a citizen and tax payer. If this journalist is so careless he should not be in such a responsible job. [Post edited 5 Dec 14:40]

Well ‘Arry Redknap forgot he had £5 million in a Swiss bank account if you remember….named after his dog I believe. He won in court against HMRC. Perhaps Clive will be having a quick chat with him regarding his legal team…if required.
