We do need to get better at putting opponents away when we’re dominant. As people have already said, we invariably have a rocky spell towards the end.
Watford, despite being a step up from most of the teams we play, didn’t actually create any decent chances, but their #8 had a lot of possession down their left towards the end and looked threatening. Oxford did nothing all game and very nearly stole a draw. Milwall should have been two or three down by the time they scored. Off the top of my head, the Cardiff and Bristol City games should have been done and dusted, but we were hanging on in both after they equalised.
Just need to be a bit more clinical in the box now.

A lot of points lost that shouldn't have been, must say that the goals scored in the last two games seem better constructed with the correct balls played into the box but with players in positions to take advantage. It had seemed previously that anyway near the box cross were made into positions with no thought as to who was in the box, high crosses for Cullen to get on the end of, balls into players feet with no options available to them with no support in the middle of midfield, In the last two games the support for our forwards has been better, does seem that support falls away as teams try and press us to try recover games in which we hold the lead.
Maybe a bit of thought should be given to how we make quick breaks from our defences as our front line trying to stretch defence s wide actually isolate themselves especially if our centre forward is defending our front post maybe the wingers or players breaking out of defence need to get closer similar to Key's goal last year where he quickly got close to Lowes breakaway to offer him an option that was duly dispatched . |  | | |

I would suggest that a decent #10 is more important than another striker. Vipotnik and Bianchini will score goals if given the service. We saw the difference someone who can pick a pass out from advanced midfield made today, and not just for the goal. We bisected their defensive line more often in 90 minutes than we have in weeks.

Cabango and Darling contract renewal would be a cheap PR gift to the fans by the prospective new owners. An attacking midfielder would be the icing on the cake I think. | |

Don't you think Grimes can play that advanced midfielder role, we saw with the rotation of the three Platino, Grimes and Paterson in the midfield last season the link play between the front players and the backs was better, I would say that trio was defensively weak especially when the back line wasn't set up properly. With the acquisition of Franco it has aided both attack and defence, yes we do need someone else in the midfield but is it one to help in both attack and defence, it has become patently obvious seeing some of our pacy players who have been intent on taking corners have been stopped to ensure we have them covering against the break aways have we enough in the midfield in open play to guard against those counter attacks, we saw Key was quite capable of covering his mistake to turn a counter attack from the opposition into an attack of our own from which we scored with his incisive runs drawing defenders to him.
We saw the trio of Fulton, Grimes and Korey Smith add a defensive robustness under Cooper to help Grimes but no cutting edge up front as Grimes still dropped deep too often.
Even with the likes of Ayew, Lowe , Piroe and Ntcham while endeavouring to keep us strong in defence we struggled to give a good supply of quality ball, we struggled to do both.
Not sure a better advanced midfielder will help if we keep being push back in a defensively weak midfield. | | | |

We need more than just an attacking midfielder. That gives us a good starting eleven and that’s being generous given our striking options.
What we need to become competitive, in terms of a sustained challenge to the top six, is very unlikely to come in one transfer window.
I’d honestly be happy now if we could tie the two at the back down.
If we replace Levein and Kaplan, don’t get relegated and extend those two contracts, it’s a good season in my opinion. | | | |

Allen could be used in the midfield alongside Franco similar to Naughton is being used but understandably sparingly.

We have players short of Premier class already it is all about the continued improvement of the squad a lot of inexperienced players at Championship now finding their feet, yes Downes will have better offers but if a team cones down they have to balance their books and trim their outgoings if the parachute payments don't get them back up.
As I said think we have a player defensive midfielder in Key then Eom, Ginnelly can be released to play the number ten with Ronald and Pearl-Harris out wide with the likes of Abdulai and Parker for full back and midfield as and when needed, we have injuries at the moment which is a worry there could be more options sooner than later🤞🏻 | | | |

Yo yo effect maybe be one way of building the team but you have to expect players moving on then. Great if those players were deemed surplus to requirements but quite happy with Vigo staying on the books a couple more years.

Yes we didn’t get our just reward today - I didn’t see the handball real time so I can’t comment but the referee had a decent game apart from the possible sending off he missed. Upon seeing the reply I thought it was a Grimes handball. A soft one perhaps but if you're going to be sticking your arms in the air when the ball is floating about you're always taking that risk. Grimes should know better than that.

That’s not a disaster at the end of the day. A bit galling to lose to a soft penalty (which could have gone either way but we certainly can’t argue with), but we’ve gone to a relegated PL club and given them a good game.
We’d have been swatted aside up there under Martin or Duff.
They were better than us, but we all knew they would be. We restricted them to mainly long range shooting and they didn’t really look like breaking us down.

I haven’t seen a decent side that would grace the Premiership yet, and basically we’ve got about half a side at the moment. With a couple of players hopefully coming back, plus some good business by our “New” owners in January, i can’t see why we can’t progress up the table with the amount of games still awaiting us. | | | |
