Kolli Dad Interview on 07:21 - Oct 30 by mart_Goblin

Yes. That’s a valid point and one where admittedly I’ve confused the 2 .

It’s not a valid point because there are a number of dev squad players in the first team photo.

Talla
Morgan
Tuck
Bennie
Lloyd
Salomon

And there is no chance Kolli is not in that elite group, he leads that peer group. It’s a contract issue that is preventing selection.

I was speaking to a Bristol City supporter and he was saying how good their youth players were because Pearson would give them first team opportunities and trust them. Anyway they also bomb them out if they're not going to commit to the club, why bother continuing with their development.

Sounds like it's a common practice and one we've picked up from clubs with a better track record.

Yes, but Bristol City are also very open and honest with their supporters when that's happening.

But clearly they were resigned to losing him at that point. The difference here could be that Kolli (or his reps) are asking for big money because he's 'a first team player' but aren't indicating he wants to leave.

Until it gets to the point where he makes it clear he'll never sign a contract - as I'm sure Conway did - I'm not sure what the club can announce publicly. Similar situation to Willock in the summer.

We all had plenty to say about the Haamalainen and Kakay contracts that were dished out so there's an element of positivity in us not making the same mistake again with Kolli, especially since he's shown so little in the limited chances he's had at first team level so far.

All completely fair points.

By itself, this isn't an issue. This sort of stuff goes on all the time at all clubs.

A 19 year old, with one start for the club in which he was found wanting defensively, has been returned to the development squad. This happens at all clubs all the time.

And yet it's an issue here, why? Because it's not by itself.

Also because attacking players bought in and those departed have meant we are short of attacking options so a player with 2 very good assists is looked upon as the Massiah or is he being a very naughty.....

captains fantastic

Equally fair.

I find it a bit mystifying why there's so much chatter about the Kolli situation. It's not like he's ever shown anything to be excited about like Armstrong did when he burst into the first team. I think you're probably right in that the Kolli situation gets sensationalised because people feel they're in the dark about everything. Anything mundane but labelled confidential can inherently feel negative and invites theories of conspiracy, especially when it suddenly starts happening with regularity which clearly hasn't been considered.

It's almost like we have a ludicrously inexperienced CEO at the head of the club or something.

Good point. I think he was talking about Han-Noah Massengo, on if their best players at the time dropped for the last year of his contract then went on a free. Probably paved a way for Alex Scott to come through who at the time was worse but has ended up more valuable.

We're talking about someone who's not even established in the first team. Like you say, could be that his performance got him dropped, there's a rumour that it might be a contract issue. Either way it doesn't really matter.

Yes the communication has left the void for these discussions but either of those reasons should be acceptable reasons to drop him so not sure what the club has done wrong tbh.

Bristol did really well getting a fee then. Maybe this tactic only works when the player is in demand?

Maybe it explains why a few of our players in their final year become free agents, or have to go abroad

We got a good fee for Sinclair with a year left TBF.

Money for him and Lyndon was amazing, imagine the uproar if we hadn't disclosed any fees!

Yep. Also a valid point and you made the point I was trying to make and failed miserably .

I also checked myself and asked myself why I was going out to bat so strongly over something that if I was honest I didn’t feel massively strongly about . So I admitted defeat if I’m being honest .

My opinions are strong but sometimes I realise that I relate to my own experiences and those were over 30 years ago . Football has changed beyond belief since I was at the club and as much as I’m proud of that and like to reminisce, it does render some of my thoughts invalid .

Example is that I was trying to say that once a player breaks into the first team then of course they should go back and play development football when asked but it’s over a year that Kolli was in and around the 1st team . To leave him out of the main squad pic , to me , was something that is unacceptable inside a football club. Players are egotistical as we all know and also very proud people and that was humiliating.
When I was there , if for example they had asked Dougie Freedman , once he’d been a pro at QPR for a year to then not have him in the adult squad photo but told him to he’d be back in the youth team , he’d have said F*ck off! No question . Now Dougie was a confident player but a relatively quiet and mild mannered young man but he would not have accepted that and he’d never been close , not once , ever to playing in our first team. He’s an example but the same would go for all of the players in that bracket at the time .

However , football has changed and where I was wrong was comparing the 2 age groups because the lines were very structured then as far as age groups . Now they are blurred and I got that bit confused.
I like everybody else don’t know the exact facts so maybe there is good reason but it would have to be a big one .

I didn't realise all those other lads were in the first team photo to be honest. There is something in that.

My speculation would be as mentioned above; he's been offered dev-squad level terms and they're asking for first team level terms. QPR's reaction to what they perceive to be a bit cheeky is to treat him like a Dev Squad player until he's on extended terms. So leaving him out of the first team squad is in some ways a bargaining technique.

It's pretty tough to condone petty actions like that by the club and certainly doesn't really shine as a beacon of solidarity within the dressing room... But at the same time I don't think Kolli has done a single thing to warrant first team wages and / or a long deal. He still has everything to prove.

It can't be beyond the wit of man, or man-child CEO, to construct a deal that means he gets Dev Squad wages when with DS, and 1st team wages when he is in 1st team. With increases when he's played 10, 25, 50 1st team games/starts.

We're just going to assume they haven't offered that or something similar?

I fail to understand what all this fuss is about!!!!......he is a 'bog standard' 20 year old that plays junior football for Algeria (because he isn't good enough for England boys) and made an appearance in the QPR first team (& wasn't very good either).

Not seen enough in his performances so far to justify all the hype about this contract stuff. Looks a bit lightweight to me at this level, not even sure what position he plays in. If he was as good as people seem to think he is, would he not walk into the current team, as they are not exactly tearing up trees.

Honestly, I reckon if he had normal hair there'd be almost no noise about him at all.

It's good branding (although he does have to walk about like that)

Didn’t Marti, when he was questioned why Kolli wasn’t in the first team squad photo, mentioned that Kolli was asked but he couldn’t/ didn’t make it for the photo shoot. Can’t recall the reason why but the club did invite him.

Did anyone recall this or was it my imagination?

Just about sums him up. I've watched him once, and that was about enough for me. Looked Ok going forward against WBA, but Christ, he couldn't defend for shyte.
