Celar - Nothing Again on 18:20 - Nov 2 by stevec | I would agree with the first two sentences but how low do you set the bar if you think he’s a functioning CF. Smyth hit a great cross in but a one legged man could have done better with that golden opportunity. His best game yes, but don’t expect anything better, it’s not going to happen. |
It must be fun in your house !! Glass half empty... [Post edited 2 Nov 18:26]

Celar - Nothing Again on 18:27 - Nov 2 with 3139 views | Logman | Agree with stevec. I just don't see where the tools to get past a centre back or be a fox in the box are with Celar. Not got a lot of tricks up his sleeve.
Celar - Nothing Again on 18:33 - Nov 2 with 3087 views | PhilmyRs | Based on today. Feels harsh to dig out Celar too much. We need to try and get the most from our players even if they haven’t delivered for us and possibly weren’t the right signings. Keep up that level and it’s only good for the team.
Celar - Nothing Again on 19:02 - Nov 2 with 2905 views | strikerace | The bar is set really low with Celar now. A few completed passes, a shot not on goal, and a little hustle, and people are happy? Seems to me this is the minimum we should expect from any player selected to sit on the bench for the match

He put himself about a lot more ... Not perfect by any means but I think he was worth 6/10 today. A performance to build on I think.

Not happy, just fans seeing an improvement. If people on here are going to continually dig a player out at least they should have the class to appreciate a better performance. I am sure some people on here want him to fail so they can say, told you so.

I was one of the first to call him out and I have kept fairly quiet since, for what it's worth I don't think he's up to championship standard. I also don't think we have the luxury of time to allow him to get there. Would love to be wrong but there really is nothing in the evidence column to suggest I am. Still, would love to be wrong.

Frey is injured so Celar is all Cifuentes has got… Better performance from him today but he doesn’t look like he is ever going to score a goal.

Celar - Nothing Again on 19:48 - Nov 2 with 2580 views | hubble | I saw enough in Celar today to change my mind about him. I saw him battle and scrap a bit, put in a few good passes, and was in the right place to have our two best chances of the afternoon; obviously it's a shame he fumbled the first and just missed with that second half strike. I think we've (understandably) written him off too early. Maybe it really has taken him this long to adjust to the Championship. I'd say this was a solid 50% improvement in him today... by that metric, I reckon we might soon even see the striker we'd hoped we'd signed. [Post edited 2 Nov 19:54]

Putting himself “about a bit” isn’t really playing though is it? He is still a million miles away from being a solid Championship striker. We have not much option than to persevere with him though. But we need somebody, anybody to start banging a few in. Our survival utterly depends on it. As someone has already stated, Dunne attacks the ball far more often and aggressively than he does. Dunne looks like he wants it, badly, Celar on the other hand……
Celar - Nothing Again on 09:41 - Nov 3 with 1957 views | Hoopsie | Celar hasn’t score for 14 games. For Slovenia, 16 games without a goal But his career stats up to now suggest he is a 3 in 1 striker, so for QPR and Slovenia it is an anomaly. I will also suggest that the games for QPR and his national team were not all starting eleven but lots as a substitute and being substituted, so stats can give a skew picture Let’s all hope for our sake he starts to score goals, and I think he will but we would’ve to give him time [Post edited 3 Nov 9:57]

Interesting you mention Dunne - twice yesterday balls were put in Celar’s head in great positions and Dunne jumped over him to miss both…

Celar was joint top goal scorer in the Swiss Super League for Lugano last season and he scored 40 goals over 3 seasons for the club. I don't know what the quality is like in that league but those stats surely suggest there's more to Celar than we've yet seen.
Celar - Nothing Again on 10:22 - Nov 3 with 1728 views | Northernr | Thought that shot second half was in yesterday. He seemed a bit more up for it and effective after they'd tried to break his leg. Maybe somebody can give him a slap before we go out next time.
Celar - Nothing Again on 10:35 - Nov 3 with 1677 views | Ghost_on_the_Westway | A bloke on the H&C after said he put £20 in Celar to score, because he felt today was the day he was going to come good. Bless. But then he asked how many stops to Oxford Circus there were to go. I was tempted to ask him if he was interested in buying a bridge by then. [Post edited 3 Nov 12:58]

But Ben Williams is still in role. He’s still being paid by the club. He is just based in Dubai and so isn’t physically present. And he’s working for other sports franchises as well. Great idea to have your head of performance in a different continent. Perfectly sensible to continue paying him. And yeah, his whole schtick about starting the season at 60% fitness and ramping up to minimise injuries looks like a load of baloney now, doesn’t it?

Celar - Nothing Again on 11:45 - Nov 3 with 1352 views | TacticalR | A couple of thoughts about Celar. 1. It seems to me too early to pass a final judgement. It will be interesting to see if once he does score then he gets going and scores regularly, or whether scoring is a flash in the pan like it was with Dykes. 2. One thing in his favour is that he is not rigid like Dykes. Hopefully this means that his touch can get better (which would improve his hold up play).

Last season was the exception to the rule. Getting 25 games out of him would be about par. Legs made of Quavers.

Celar got more involved yesterday and started putting his shoulder in and game-fully played on after that horror stamp on his shin, Hopefully this is the start and he is getting accustomed to and less shy of the physicality of this division, Movement, hold-up play and lay-offs were all decent yesterday as was good technique to step inside defenders and get that shot-off, I think Celar's a downgrade on Dykes as a Championship target man but Dykes did'nt have that technique to beat a man on the edge of the box and get his shot off as Celar showed yesterday, which is why we bought Celar, so looks like a plan of sorts, I still think if we can get a coherent attacking style of play (Varane & Morgan showing they could be the instigators of this) Celar could be a better option than Frey, However if we continue to only have Celar as the only man in the box like the last half hour yesterday (bar the occasional foray from Dunne), Celar will justifiably struggle to be a 1 in 3 striker which is minimum needed from him given his style of play.

A few things PRR...... The Club (whoever that is) decided that the money offered for Dykes was too much to refuse and, perhaps, Celar was a better option than Dykes for the cost (or future) or that Dykes was not upto Championship level. Who knows?? As it happens, Celar has not played anywhere near to the required level, improved yesterday but still lacking a lot of things.
