Next England Manager on 16:28 - Aug 9 by lassel | I mean it’s pretty obvious they hope he will have two good games playing attractive football and they’ll quietly confirm him permanently. It’s what they did with Southgate albeit obviously without the attractive football |
Attractive football is subjective really though isn’t it. In Brazil they celebrate flair, Germany precision and efficiency, the Netherlands teamwork and positional thinking. I always thought the English / British values held highest were graft and strength, which delivered us nothing in 60 years. [Post edited 9 Aug 17:05]

Next England Manager on 15:27 - Aug 9 by Ned_Kennedys | I very much doubt the FA are looking at anyone else. Carsley is their man and wouldn’t have rejected the Republic of Ireland job unless he’d been promised the England job when Southgate eventually went. |
quite possibly and if he does well in the Nations League games I can see him getting it but it does buy them some time and different managers will be available in a few months who you just won't get today
Next England Manager on 18:47 - Aug 9 with 1606 views | kensalriser | Why does there always have to be some kind of cloak and dagger/subterfuge angle? They can appoint who they like - if Carsley is the first choice, just appoint him. Why run the risk of an interim appointment in which he gets poor results?

This works well for the FA as if he’s given a full contract, say 3 years, they’ll have to pay out in full if it goes t*ts up quickly. This way they get to see how he does and if all goes well then a full contract can be given. If not then there will be little or no pay out and a new Manager (who may have been sounded out by then) can come in.

He’s not going to get poor results: Southgate getting us relegated to division 2 in the Nations League means we will flat track bully Republic of Ireland, Finland and Greece.l over the next few months.

Next England Manager on 16:08 - Aug 29 with 784 views | LongRanger | Personal view is that Carsley will sit in there for a year to manage us along, as he's meant to be decent, but we'll then appoint Pep at the end of the season. I'd guess Carsley felt he'll do well in the year, raise his profile and get a decent job out of it. The Irish job is a good one, but a tough one to raise your profile in the short term.
