Whatever your views on gender/race/religion etc, this is absolutely terrifying that a private company can have this much power

Of all the insanely depressing posts on here. This one takes no.1 spot. Such blind and viscous prejudice packing a number of completely unsupported smears into a short post

Can you justify in what way, "This is extremists trying to exploit football"?

In what way, is this remotely, "just like when the NF were handing out their filth outside football grounds in the 70s"

Can you explain how, "they want to whip up hatred and shut down people who don't agree with them"

The scary part is I think you believe what you are saying but it's based on nothing. You just haven’t thought it through and have prejudice programmed into your thinking. You can’t assess the individual case or separate it from your hatred for someone who isn’t on your political team.

There's a number of pretty bat sh t crazy posts here though

Martin Luther King wanted racism to end. He wanted people judge on content of character not colour of their skin. But some casual racism from JimtheHip and FDC who disagree with MLK and seem to find the colour of Toby Young relevant and his whiteness somehowmaking him less deserving of an opinion

What's standouts is none of the angry, hateful comments address the actual story. Instead it’s just a pile on and chuck out unsubstantiated Owen Jones sound bite smears and offensive nasty hateful comments to try and shout down a potentially reasonable argument

Lazyfan shoots off on a tangent calling this capitalism. It isn't

Also says 'state control' is for the people means being “for the people over private enterprise”which is such a painfully ignorant statement. Firstly if you just think about that statement how can that possibly be true. How on earth can state control be only for the people. I would imagine in your world you wouldn’t see Trump running the state as being “for the people over private enterprise”. You might see though the dementia addled puppet Biden’s cronyism. Such is the blind political side taking and removal of critical thinking from most minds in society

Suggest Lazyfan goes and reads up on Stalins Collectivization and the Holodomor which killed 4m Ukrainians. Or how 'state control' for the people worked out in Zimbabwe and Venezuela

This whole thread is an insight into the ill informed and dangerously misguided opinions and spiteful and hateful nature of many within our society. Lazyfan takes that to the extreme

"Lazyfan shoots off on a tangent calling this capitalism. It isn't"

It is, Football is no longer the domain of the working people. It's run by Big Business and silly Toby thinks he's being anti-woke not realising he's actually discovered that the bosses make the decisions.

"Also says 'state control' is for the people means being “for the people over private enterprise”which is such a painfully ignorant statement."

So, the state should be run for Big Business? No it should be run for the UK citizens. We have fought for democracy to try and ensure that happens. It does not always come out that way, especially recently, but that's the idea. I want to expand that idea so, that we don't go back to being run by the Monarchy. That's what the English Civil War was fought over. I want more democracy not less.

"Firstly if you just think about that statement how can that possibly be true. How on earth can state control be only for the people. I would imagine in your world you wouldn’t see Trump running the state as being “for the people over private enterprise”."

Err ... I am not sure what you going on about here. It does not make sense. So, you want Private Enterprise over the state? That could be possible if we the UK people owned it all and ran it democracy. I am happy about that, but we don't. So, you want the few to maintain power over the many as we have now. But you want it to continue. For what purpose? So, you can doff your cap and go yes squire?

"You might see though the dementia addled puppet Biden’s cronyism. Such is the blind political side taking and removal of critical thinking from most minds in society"

Critical thinking has been asked for in our schooling system many times by the left. The right has blocked it every time. Far from removing it, I want everyone to do it. Rather than be docile bleating sheep following the centre ground like it's some moderate way, I want people to vote democratically as much as possible. Biden is another Starmer for me so, another Tory. He's just not as bad as Trump, but to me, Trump is another Hitler in waiting. Thus the bar is as low as it goes.

"Suggest Lazyfan goes and reads up on Stalins Collectivization and the Holodomor, which killed 4m Ukrainians. Or how 'state control' for the people worked out in Zimbabwe and Venezuela"

Those are state dictatorships, rather than democracies. I want more state democracy so, much so, I would have it in the workplace. I doubt you would. So, state dictatorships are bad, but private dictatorships are all okay? To me Stalinism is closer to Nazism so, I am against both of these. It's all a form of fascism to me.

"This whole thread is an insight into the ill informed and dangerously misguided opinions and spiteful and hateful nature of many within our society. Lazyfan takes that to the extreme"

What's extreme about wanting the state to be actually for real working people and not sell out to big business every time? Actually, considering the cow-towing to your business overlords, perhaps that is extreme ... for you.

It's quite simple, I am for empowering UK citizens through as much democracy as possible, including in the workplace. If you think the boss knows best ... well watch out, one of us lefties could end up being the boss!

Have you seen some of the vile stuff she was posting on twitter on a daily basis. She put herself in the firing line and it got so bad the police interviewed her under caution. Why didn't Toby Young give all the facts, clickbait.

Any examples? I've had a quick look, all I can find is this screenshot from the Premier League dossier....Which they've only apparently released the front cover of??

Imagine this concept, they may not actually be for the workers and more interested in Big Business. I don't see the difference between One Nation Tories and Blairites. There is no difference; they are both pro-big business at the expense of workers.

Even Starmer says it's okay to call him a conservative. So, even he admits he's a Tory. I have more respect for the Tories as at least I can understand their point of view and their principled stand on ensuring their party continues to be on the right. But Starmer's mission seems to be to drag the only major worker's party to the right. And this is the real point of Starmer, not the government but to destroy the left. It won't work and he is going to be, as people will see a worse liar than Boris.

If your union is not doing it for you, then change their leaders. If you cannot do that, you can change Unions. If you cannot do that, then you can leave. If they don't deliver value, don't pay the subs. And tell em why when you leave and all your co-workers.

I've long held the view that there isn't much difference between Labour and the tories any more policy wise. However this current lot have been beyond a joke for many years now and have just got to go. That might be the kick up the arse they need to sort themselves out and become a proper conservative party again rather than a bunch of extremist loons.

If your openly posting abhorrent stuff about Dr Mengele, grooming and mutilating children and getting investigated by the police then I say fair game. Why would anyone want to openly post that shite about a minority group. People are welcome to views but she obviously crossed a line and I'd be happy if the same happened at QPR.

To be fair they are mainly online and social media.

Personally I'm not right or left. For me there is just right and wrong.

The problem is everyone just takes a side and doesn't even question when the thing they are saying is just madness. But as long as the other side are annoyed who cares.

It's quite obviously wrong that this stuff is happening. You don't have to like Toby Young. It's just playing the man and not the ball.

The funny thing is posters going on about capitalism while typing on an apple Mac or iPhone. But hypocritical?

I'm not even a lover of the system but have we ever had a better one?

Funny that none of the free peachers were up in arms about the D.O.E monitoring School staff for airing opinions critical of government policy.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/oct/21/uk-government-keeping-files-on-

It's no surprise they'd champion a eugenicist either, as Young believes we should improve the IQ of the working class with selective breeding.

It's culture war clickbait for the easily triggered.

But Dr Mengele did mutilate children? What minority group did he come from? Mid-Century Germans? Is that a recognized minority these days?

I haven't seen the tweets or their context, I suspect neither have you.

It wasn't one case and if you can't distinguish between the seriousness of a government monitoring and censoring its citizens and a private company you need to give your head a wobble.

I'll ask again, why are the free peachers silent on fundamental issues of free speech yet vocal about the right to rightwing speech?

I believe the official name for this is "whataboutery"

Keep it on topic mate, if you want to start a thread about something else, crack on. This one is about the Newcastle fan who was banned for posting her protected beliefs on twitter.

It isn't "whataboutery", it's contextualisation.

It isn't "about" a fan being banned either. It's a post from a right wing propagandist group trying to radicalise.

Their more known for fake speech than free speech, so forgive me for dismissing this as just another exercise.

I'm not sure. I'll wait and see what the truth of it is. Like the Farage bank ban, which ended up with their being no evidence of any customers having their accounts closed because of their views. Oddly, it was the same folk frothing at that; cbeebies, torygraph, Daily hate, free peachers.

There are people in prison for hate speech, mostly radical muslims tbf, so she could have gotten off lightly.

More whataboutery, and another strange case to bring up concerning this thread. Dame Alison Rose walked from her job for absolutely no reason then, I take it?

It's not strange at all. She didn't resign because accounts were closed for customers because of their views, they weren't. Yet, the stink raised has led to some people believing the opposite.

It's a pretty good example of how these culture warriors operate to muddy the waters and dupe the gullible.

As a lefty, I try to understand the Tory party you want.

I could be wrong but it seems to be closer to One Nation Tories, the ilk of Cameron, Heath and even Boris. Sunak is clearly one of these, too.

They may lean towards the hard right now and again to get support (Boris with his letter), but they want to continue international capitalism and markets. They are more global than Thatcher, but they are the same nationally as Thatcher.

The hard right of the Tory party doesn't want to let the outside foreign capitalists in (closed shop just for them to be the elite), as they feel they cannot out-compete them in their international market domains and they don't like the national competition.

Reece-Mogg is one of those people who try to praise the class system, and you're not British like me attitude. As then, he wants to say x,y,z companies who are not British or not Britsh run at least (where British means the so-called elite like Mogg, not the workers) should not be allowed to operate in the UK and so on. Toby, who started all this, is also one of those. You notice that Newcastle his target is foreign-owned.

This goes against the One Nation Tories (despite their name), who wanna open it all up to international capitalists. And this is the real fight going on in the Tory party. Not, trans or wokism or if a banana should be straight or not, these are just topics to rile up support from people who have not been even given half the information and are peeed off for having been trashed on by the ruling classes (Starmer types).

If you want One Nation Tory policies you still can get that from the Liberals (proven with them going back on all their policies to ensure Tory policies were enacted in the alliance with Cameron.) or Starmers Blariite's old New Labour.

The risk for you with Starmer is what is expected to happen over here in left land, is that the fights in the Tory party will seem like a Tea party to what Starmer will get on him after his honeymoon period is over in 1.5 years of being PM. The fight is building up hard, and it will be way bigger than the Tory infighting. This means a resurgence in the left movement with Starmer as the target. The left could win back the party and govt so, so that's a risk to such views and that's why the papers will hammer Starmer in the election run-in. They are just saving it up, you'll see.

That I happen to be wary of accepting that a group that operates by spreading falsehoods and fake news might not be giving us the full picture doesn't mean I have no idea.

Should preachers of hate be banned from football grounds? I'm not sure I can get worked up enough about their "protected beliefs" or rights to watch football to die on that particular hill.

The thread is about a female Newcastle fan being banned from going to Newcastle games because she tweeted about trans ideology. Nothing to do with Natwest, Coutts, or Farage. It's pure whataboutery.

Dame Alison leaked confidential information about Farage's banking. Why did she do that? Because Farage is seen as fair game for that kind of thing by this kind of person. Why is he seen as fair game? Because he holds views she finds intolerable. In an internal dossier, Coutts wrote that he "is at best seen as xenophobic and pandering to racists" and considered a "disingenuous grifter" - You use all the Guardian links you want to try and pretend it didn't happen mate, but we all watched it in real-time.
