Reverse fixtures on New Years Day?

Seem to be some debate about if GMP will "allow" such a fixture .....

I might be over-critical here but this literally just looks like someone's looked at the division and put the closest fixtures on that day. I suspect that's not how it works.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

That Twitter account appears to be run by a grade A bellend who likes the EPIC BANTZ.

I wouldn’t take anything he says seriously.

Edit - the “insider” bloke, not JT 😀

I guess they'd put us, Oldham, York, Halifax, Altrincham and Fylde in the same bucket.

This boxing day / New Years Day reverse is one of the few 'perks' of being in the conference.

Bit daft from a financial point of view.
Two decent crowds guaranteed whenever you play those derby matches.
On the other hand, there's no public transport on those days so makes it easier to get there.

That's exactly how it works.

I know geography plays a part but not to the extent where you inevitably play your closest rival.

I don't remember us ever playing Oldham, Bury, Stockport, Macclesfield, Salford, Bradford, Halifax on Boxing Day.

We used to get the likes of Wrexham, Mansfield and Scunthorpe most years it felt!

No it isn't.

Oldham played Notts County on Boxing Day and New Year's Day last season, when the likes of Halifax, Altrincham, Chesterfield, Wrexham and York were all closer potential opponents.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Someone has made it up, like they do every year. Not sure why people keep falling for it.

I recall in ye good olden days of Division 3 North that local Derbies were played on Christmas Day with the reverse fixture on Boxing Day.

I went to bury on Boxing Day 1983, Halifax on Boxing Day 1985 and Stockport on Boxing Day 1989.

More recently, Boxing Day derbies have been avoided due to clubs wanting the larger crowds away from the festive period when they get larger crowds anyway.

In some cases, it's unavoidable, though, such as when the Premier League has so many London clubs, it's inevitable there might be a London derby or two in there.

Think I posted elsewhere that I reckon AFC Fylde is a good bet for us as we're probably their closest opponents.

Boxing Day at Halifax in either 1970 or 1971 when Denis Butler scored three is one of my favourite Dale memories.

It'll be a real shame if it ends up being Fylde rather than Halifax or Altrincham.

Tangled up in blue.

Nope and don't like them either.

It's just football and cricket for me.

How about yourself?

Made up for that miserable wet afternoon in November 69 when we lost 3-1 and the pitch started coming apart at the corners (when they still had the speedway track)

Poll: What are you planning to do v Newport

Not for those who might be planning for a Boxing Day trip to Halifax or Altrincham on public transport on Boxing Day...

Or we might be at home!

I remember a few years ago the EFL. saying they didn’t tend to do derby games on holidays as the crowds were bigger on them days and derbys get big crowds when played at other times maybe national league might think this way too

Bill Atkins had a wonder game that day I recall. …for Halifax, before joining us a few years later.

We'd just beaten Mansfield on the Monday night and were really flying.
People were getting giddy and talking about a second successive promotion!
Down to earth with a massive bump!

Ended a run of EIGHT wins on the bounce

The week after, we lost in the FA Cup to Workington and the week after that, lost at Luton. They were top, we were second so MOTD showed brief "highlights" which they did in those days from a key game outside the top division. The only time we've ever featured on MOTD
