No 'London (sic) Stadium' either, even though it's 3k bigger than Spurs and almost 4k more than the Emirates, arf!! Serves them right, shite place to get to, shite place to have a football game.

Isn't there going to be a slight snag with 5 hosts qualifying automatically?

That's because it's a GAA ground that's been closed for ages.

They have one of those in Turkey every week. They also won’t give it to a perceived pro Russian nation.

Heard that it might well be a case of 'One city, one stadium', so Croke Park naturally loses out to the FAI's Lansdowne Road.

By then it'll probably farcically be a 32 team finals tournament where it'll be harder not to qualify for it.

My lot will make a good go of not qualifying although there are some good young guys like Ferguson and PNEs Tom Cannon who bagged two against us coming through.
Mind you every Irish championship player has pretty much been on the target against us this season.

Ireland appear to be producing a number of good, talented youngsters at present, which hopefully bodes well for the future.

Cannon was quality. Smart runs, good passing and very pacy.
Best of all quality finishing.

Well, the fact that the tvvat scored twice against us and this being a QPR board, you might get a few takers there.

The only young Irishman that hasn't scored is Armstrong!

Yeah, he’s disappeared along with Tim into the ether . Are they injured or will we ever know?
I like Armstrong but his composure is poor.

Is London an exception then Brian with Wembley & Tottenham?*

I suppose so. Wembley for the Final, maybe?

No, I'm not promoting it. I'm not sure I'm even in favour of it, terry. Too many security concerns.

Wembley would be used as it'll be a capacity sell out.

IMO the problem at Euro20/21 was that capacity was restricted to 60k so you had tens of thousands of people thinking " 'ere, there's 30k empty seats, lets bunk in".

How the fk is 60k going to make any difference to reducing spreading covid when you have all these people travelling on trains, buses, the underground, walking along the concourses, buying food, using the toilets etc etc.

Should have been a 90k capacity and none of the trouble would have happened.

Yes the whole thing was completely bonkers wasn't it?
It was also around the time the social restrictions were being lifted so the first time people were able to go out to football, drink and be merry. Of course sh*t was going to go bad. Throw the England team getting to a Euro's final and all the enthusiasm and excitement into the mix and it was so bleedin obvious.

The police and whoever was in charge of security (UEFA was it?) were completely asleep at the wheel and didn't anticipate any of the behavior given all of the factors. Absolute joke how it was allowed to unfold.

You could argue that all that lead to the debacle in Paris a year later.

With 5 Associations hosting, and Windsor Park in Belfast not being big enough, the Irish Football Association is hoping that Casement Park (Belfast GAA) will be rebuilt, from scratch, in time to host games.

Only problem is, the GAA has buggered about for years without even getting started (Planning Permission, local opposition etc) so that the cost has rocketed. And although this was their own fault, they now want the Stormont government to stump up an extra £50m-odd over and above their ortiginal allocated stadium budget.

Which in turn causes further problems, i.e. Stormont's budget for schools, hospitals, housing and other frivolities is already inadequate; while if GAA gets extra, then both football and rugby have a moral claim at least to more funding, since they originally spent their own respective stadium budget allocations responsibly, on time and within budget. Oh, and Stormont has been suspended for nearly a year, with no sign of it re-opening any time soon.

And there is said to be a deadline of construction to start at Casement by 2024 (latest), which is by no means guaranteed.

Meaning that if Casement is ruled out, they'll need a replacement. I suspect Croke Park (GAA, Dublin) is on standby, or maybe even SoL Sunderland?

I wonder if a cross community deal has been done to make it a multi purpose stadium.

[Post edited 12 Apr 2023 14:57]

They won't. The reasonm it's a multi-host bid was put forward was because it gives them five votes in UEFA, plus the five can call in any favours that other Associations might owe them. Plus ROI adds a non-UK/EU/Euro identity etc.

I think it likely that only England will be automatic qualifiers, though maybe ROI too, at least if Croke Park has to be used?

While Scotland, Wales and NI (and ROI) can't really complain about having to qualify, since there is no way any of them could ever host the tournament by themselves. Besides, with 24 teams out of 53 UEFA members, and half a dozen or more no-hopers (eg Andorra, San Marino etc), each should have a reasonably chance of going through.

While for visiting teams/fans based in eg Glasgow, Cardiff or Belfast etc, won't really care whether the home team has qualified or not.
