My Mum 16:10 - Jan 22 with 8090 viewsPinnerPaul

Sadly my Mum passed away yesterday.

Not unexpected as she had been in decline for several months..

She had a long and happy life (would have been 88 next month) and that's all of us can ask for.

As a 62 year old I realise I was lucky to have for so long.

From a QPR supporting family she married another mad QPR fan and she and my Dad were very happy.

Rather apt that she passed away around the time we scored yesterday and that I found out while in W12. I saw her last on Thursday.

She was always asking me about "the Rangers" and my refereeing, so I will continue on here, even though I might not get quite so worked up as usual in the next few days if anyone starts talking nonsense about the laws!

Lost my mum, nearly 7 years ago. It's never the right time but she sounds like she had a good innings. Its the happy memories you need to focus on.

Very sorry to hear that Paul.
I was out with my parents yesterday, they are 89 and 85 and I realise how lucky I am to still have them.
I do think it is some consolation your Mum was a good age and I am sure you will treasure your memories with her.

Very sorry to hear of your loss Paul.

The next few days and weeks especially are going to be rough - give yourself the time and space to grieve, be kind and forgiving to yourself for anything you feel is irrational. There's no right or wrong way to deal with it

So sorry to hear that sad news, PP, my condolences. It's lovely to hear that Rangers runs in your family. Try to remember the good times you had with your mum. Warm regards

Sorry to hear that. All the best to you and yours. Are all of your close family members Rangers?

My Mum's Dad used to take her and her sister to LR when they were very young. My Dad lived round the corner from LR - in Cobbold Road, for the locals - and used to go to LR every week in the days when the 1st team played at home 1 week and the reserves the next.

My Mum and Dad always used to say that they must have stood on the SA Road "terrace" - more a hill of mud in those days!, when my Mum was 9 and my Dad 18 - a decade later and they were married!

Both my Mum and Dads families came form Shepherds Bush so inevitable that we were all fans, all had STs at various times.

Just me now with sporadic guest appearances from Mrs Pinner and my son.

His little girl is only 3 and he has another on the way, but hopefully a bit further down the track I can coerce the next generation to LR (or wherever).

Finally, can I just say I am overwhelmed by the response on here, thank you so much, it really is appreciated.

60 messages? Wow, I mean just wow!

Thank You!

Sincere condolences Paul on the loss of your Mum. My mum would have been 88 this year as well but sadly although we would like more 'added time', the 'final whistle' inevitably comes sooner than we want. However, although it is a loss now, you will always treasure the memories and the wise words that she gave you throughout your life together. That is the real victory for you both.

Coincidentally, my first home was a bedsit in Cobbold Road, above a shop, although I don't remember it as we moved to a flat in St Stephens Avenue when I was two.

similar vintage to my father who has been a fan for 75 years and is in declining health.

sounds like a lovely family dynamic and whilst something you will miss terribly, also something to think back on fondly.

Sincere condolences Paul.
RIP to your mum.

It must be good being part of a QPR supporting family and have been able to watch games together and share in the memories (good or bad).

Desperately sorry to hear of your loss Paul.

Death Is Nothing At All by Henry Scott-Holland

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just round the corner.

All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

PP, RIP to your Mum, I am sorry for your loss.

I always enjoy our debates about the application of the LOTG and can sense from your tone on here that you’re one of life’s good ones, even for a ref 😉 So your parents did a fine job and must have been similarly good people, especially as they indoctrinated you to QPR.

Take care fellow R.

Best Wishes to you PinnerPaul.

I am the same age as you. My mum died years ago (1995). It must have been great to have a QPR-supporting mum.
