Officials ⚽️
OLIVER LANGFORD
Daniel Leach and Graham Kane
Fourth Official : Christopher Sarginson

Matchday referee is Oliver Langford who is the son of Bonnie Langford who also used to be Lena Zaveroni, until she died. She then became Bonnie Langford again and ran a pub in her hometown with John Leslie, the absolutely no nonsense flexi fingered, not guilty blue peter presenter.

Referee Langford’s mum yesterday in the bathroom mirror

Oliver is no relation to Michael Oliver and has been a ref for many days, he also holds the world record for the loudest whistle in referee land. He isn’t on the referees select list. So we will have to keep an eye on him. In last year or this year ish a petition was started on Change.org to get Langford investigated stating he wasn’t very good at being a ref. 85 people signed it. Or maybe more, not a lot happened about the petition which makes a mockery of change.org because nothing changed. A really worrying aspect of the match officials comes in the form of Graham Kane who is the reserve team manager at Shelbourne FC which is in an ireland. He also runs a paint shop in Edinburgh, so not a lot of thought has been put in to this appointment. He is going to be very busy on Saturday as his shop has special offers on and Shelbourne are playing Airtricity in a football game. Some would say he isn’t very Abel.

This is Graham Kane when he is not knee deep in Dulux off white interior paint

The other match officials are ok, but don’t be fooled because they all hang around together before, during and after the game.

What do we know about the Bristols ?

In the last meeting the Bristols started to want to fight with Swansea, a couple of the Bristols jumped on to the pitch and jumped up and down. Those that got close to the visiting fans were clumped, afterwards more clumping was done. After the game the Bristols ran around a local park until they couldn’t run anymore. It’s what they do. A large number of fans were jailed and oddly two of the Swansea fans jailed were from Bristol. Maybe it isn’t that odd, with only the Bristols and Roys Rovers as local options to support.

Swansea supporters in Bristol before the last game

What do we know about the Bristols of older times and now ?

Well, Bristols are people from Burzle, which is on the River Avon, ding dong. Burzle has a lot of famous people who have left the area including Carey Grant who went to Hollywood in the America, but never he relaxed he just got very famous and never once sucked or chewed it. Giraffe man Stephen Merchant is from Burzle. Funny walking John Cleese is as well. As is Russell Howard who is rubbish. Massive Attack, the well known group of men are also from Bristols but there’s many other bands to choose from, like The Wurzels and Iron Maiden ( the tribute) Then there’s ruffian Banksy who ruins perfectly good surfaces with paint. He probably gets it from that shop in Edinburgh off Graham Kane. JK Rowling who I've never heard of is from there as is the league cup sponsor Princess Caraboo (1791 - 1864) It’s a great place for a drink in a pub, they have more than five and some are near the River where people do go swimming. Some don’t ever get out, and others do, it’s very dangerous but is a great place to buy a variety of powders and ales that can make you fly. Take your trunks and your lifesaving swimming certificate if you visit Burzle. Middle class spoilt kids from Burzle on weekends only smash things up they don’t understand, because other people do as well. My favourite venue in Burzle is the Colston Hall.

How Bristol City lined up last game v Middlesborough
BRISTOL CITY
Bentley, Moore, Vyner, Mawson, Paterson, Hunt, Bakinson, Weimann, Rowe, Martin, Wells.

Alfie Mawson will be out on Saturday after being stretchered off on Tuesday v Middlesbrough.

Here is the Bristol Post sports writers assessment on Saturdays game.

Which player(s) do Swansea need to be wary of this weekend?

Chris Martin, who leads the league for assists this season. The Scotsman was a free transfer capture before the season and his link-up play with Nahki Wells has been impressive. He can score as well and City's front two are developing a nice partnership, with Wells often feeding off the clever knockdowns and link-up play that Martin offers.
Tommy Rowe and Jack Hunt - the two wing-backs have been two further beneficiaries of Martin's assists this season, showing that City do have goals from all over, with the former Rams striker a focal point of the City attack.

Do you think the Robins are realistic promotion contenders after their impressive start to the season?

I think they are realistic contenders for the top six. I'm not so sure about promotion, and I think the three relegated teams from the Premier League, with Brentford, look the best bets to go up for me.
City should be in the mix for the top six, and their start has added hope that they may finally make that step, after going close in the last few years.
They're aiming to match Swansea City and build on a mixture of shrewd loans, homegrown products and top talent brought in at value. And Bristol City would dearly love to slip into the top six like the Swans did last season.

ITS ALL HERE -
https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/swanseacity/

Jay Fulton makes his first start of the season as Swansea City face Bristol City in the Championship this afternoon (3pm).

The Scottish midfielder comes into the side at the expense of Viktor Gyokeres in the sole change from the XI that started the midweek draw at Coventry.

Freddie Woodman continues in goal, with new signing Ryan Bennett again lining up alongside Marc Guehi and Ben Cabango in a three-man defence.

Connor Roberts and Jake Bidwell are the wing-backs, while Fulton joins captain Matt Grimes and ex-Robin Korey Smith in the middle of the park.

Andre Ayew and Jamal Lowe will lead the Swansea attack.

Bristol City: Daniel Bentley, Jay Dasilva, Chris Martin, Jamie Paterson, Andreas Weimann, Antoine Semenyo, Tomas Kalas (captain), Taylor Moore, Zak Vyner, Chris Brunt, Steven Sessegnon.

Substitutes: Max O'Leary, Jack Hunt, Famara Diedhiou, Callum O'Dowda, Nahki Wells, Tommy Rowe, Tyreeq Bakinson.

Swansea City: Freddie Woodman; Ben Cabango, Ryan Bennett, Marc Guehi; Connor Roberts, Korey Smith, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Jake Bidwell; Andre Ayew, Jamal Lowe.

Substitutes: Steven Benda, Ryan Manning, Viktor Gyokeres, Wayne Routledge, Liam Cullen, Yan Dhanda, Kyle Naughton.

Referee: Oliver Langford

5 changes for Bristol City.

GET AT EM JACK'S.

Aa I've said in another post I am very happy with how it's going but it's frustrating seeing us playing negative when imo these players are capable of more.

You are preaching to the converted.

But its very unlikely that would be the case, simply based on the fact that nobody has.

The teams above us are there after spending staggeringly far more than us or having a squad freshly relegated from the Premier League, not by outsmarting us in that department.

1. Reading 15m over last 2 seasons
2. Bristol City 30m over last 2 seasons
3. Watford (Prem last year)
4. Bournemouth (Prem last year)
5. Norwich (Prem last year)
6. Swansea (1.4m over last 2 seasons)

The anomaly there is clear as day. The fact we are competing with these clubs fairly comfortably is incredible. Asking, or rather expecting, for even more from the squad seems slightly unfair personally.

I couldnt care less about money spent, my point is that these players that cooper has are better than they are atm showing.

Hats off to cooper for getting these players here BUT he is the reason why we arent finishing teams off, he is stifling them.

See, I made my point in two small paragraphs, see if you can try the same.

Agreed.

We had (and still have) all the hallmarks for a side ready to free fall. Average squad, little experience, major overheads, no spending power and a need to sell key players every year to survive.

We are the victims of our own success. 7 years in the Premier League means every single first team player on our books was on decent Premier League wages, which isn't the case when you do a Cardiff and get relegated as quick as you are promoted.

Recovering from that with a a natural turnover of say 18m prior to handouts from the FA and you are on extremely thin ice and wading in mud.

I remember thinking mid table consolidation for the first 3 seasons would be a decent result. The fact we have been in the mix for promotion is testament to everyone involved with the daily running of the club.

Based on what are they better than 6th place in the Championship? Their careers don't suggest so. Our team is essentially made up of players that haven't performed well elsewhere or have little to no league experience.

Where have the likes of Lowe, Bidwell, Grimes, Fulton, Smith, Guehi or Woodman shown they are better than 6th in the Championship? Have any of them finished higher than that in their careers after being a key part of that side?

I see a side playing above it's historical and proven capabilities, not below it.

The fact you are looking at posts on how many paragraphs they are may say something about your level of discussion here.

If we were to look at Bidwell, I’m seeing success. Cooper. needs maybe one year, but I’m unsure if he will get it. Especially with the loan policy.

Bidwell playing the best football of his career no doubt, as are many in our side.

I am struggling to think of a player we have that is performing poorly. Connor has declined slightly maybe, but that's about it.

The main issue with our squad that is realistic to expect improvement in is the striking department as we don't really have one.

Your last paragraph sums you up, arrogant.

You just dont see anyone else's point of view.

You go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on repeating the same point, that's why I mentioned paragraphs.

Most of us get our point of view over in short pieces but you have to go on and on.

It's boring and you are condescending.

Wouldn’t argue with much of that Dr - off the pitch financially once we decided not to gamble to a bounce back up the decisions appear to have been solid & going with Cooper & his connections with top line youth players a smart call.

The challenge will be if/when we believe we are in a position to challenge meaningfully to go back up - we certainly won’t do it with a formation of 5 at the back, 3 holding midfielders & two wider strikers.

Having followed the Swans since the late 60s I’m used to a lower league fair - think it’s 9 seasons out of 50 for me in the top league! - so I’m not adverse to consolidation in the Championship right now but have to say I do want to see the quality/enjoyment factor improve.

I see your point of view, but disagree with it completely and am explaining why.

It was you that become arrogant by suggesting I try and fit my points into paragraphs that fit your attention span.

You haven't responded with where these players have shown they are better than 6th place Championship players when none of those mentioned have finished any higher than that in their careers to my knowledge.

You have a few years on me. I'm 7 out of 25 in the top flight.

And I say this with all seriousness, my favorite memories are the ones from the lower leagues. I went to the Emirates when we snatched a 2-1 win, Villa Park for the Gylfi free-kick and Ayew winner... but nothing beats the Vetch under the lights.

And it never will.

I was merely pointing out that you could get your point of view over in less space like most of us, that was not being arrogant, it was being observant and helpful.

You have constantly gone on about spend in several posts, we all know how much we and other clubs spend.

I do not care what the players have done at other clubs all I care about is how the play for my team.

In my opinion they are capable of much much more, which is frustrating.

I could but it would be less eloquent and would shorten my points resulting in them not achieving their fullness. So I am afraid you will have to expand your attention span a little in our discussion.

But back to your points... I am repeating the fact that the teams above us have spent up to 20 times more than us because its clearly important, clearly linked and shows where we are in terms of competition.

Yes, you have said you think our team is under performing. But my question was what was that based on, because these players haven't shown it in their careers thus far.

Condescending again I see, you just cant help slipping it in can you

I answer your yet again repeated point, you can spend all you want it doesnt bring you success, you can find and develop lower league players into far better players, just look at tony mowbray at blackburn for instance.

And I repeat, i say our players are underperforming because cooper is stifling them.

I think Fireboy basing his view on what he sees is completely fair enough. I also think the Dr basing it on historical performance and stature within the game is also totally understandable. Different people base their views on differing criteria and that is what gives us the wonderful polarisation in opinions relating to the sport and club we all love.

Absolutely yes. Anyone who changes a discussion to talk about response formats is fair game for condescension.

You say you are answering my point but I see no answer. Where is the evidence that Cooper is stifling them? For that to be the case they should all be performing much better for other managers and struggling here right? So who are you referring to that fits that bill?

If success on zero budget was easy and realistic then clubs wouldn't spend 30 million now would they. Success is largely correlated to funds, always has been. Why do you think Chelsea and Man City turned into world beaters as soon as rich owners turned up?

Its the same premise in the Championship just to a lesser extent. Instead of buying Jamal Lowe for 800k you can buy Ivan Toney for 5m. The better player the more they will generally cost.

I would love to know who these managers are that can replace 15m players for nothing and perform even better and also these players on a free and low wages that can make clubs finish higher than 6th place.

Speaking to some of our fans you would swear they were a dime a dozen.

Who rattled your cage?

My opinion is from the games I've seen this season and last, which is quite alot actually.

That good enough for you dad?

So if you have only seen these players under Cooper, and they haven't performed better elsewhere... how are you concluding they are being stifled? This is based on what evidence?

I think Fireboy basing his view on what he sees is completely fair enough. I also think the Dr basing it on historical performance and stature within the game is also totally understandable. Different people base their views on differing criteria and that is what gives us the wonderful polarisation in opinions relating to the sport and club we all love.

Brilliantly put, thank you my friend you have saved me the bother of answering a long drawn out post with a short one.

Again thank you.

I am not saying you aren't entitled to your view, I am simply asking you what you are basing it on, that's all. Because the evidence suggests the opposite.

So far you haven't been able to show that.
