Wigan fall under administration on 14:09 - Jul 7 with 2342 views | theloneranger | Something really stinks with the sale of Wigan ... The selling owners IEC sold their stake to NLF. Both companies are based in Hong Kong and registered in the Cayman Islands. At the time of the sale Hong Kong businessman Dr Choi Chiu Fai Stanley, chairman of IEC, owned more than 50% of both the seller, IEC, and the buyer, NLF. Then Au Yeung, initially a minority shareholder in NLF, was stated to have become the owner of 100% of NLF. IEC sold Wigan, for £17.5m, even showing a profit on the £15.9M they paid Whelan in November 2018. IEC stated on the same day that they sold the club to NLF, that the £24.6M it had put into Wigan, funding the players’ wages and all of their heavy losses - had been repaid in full. So on the same day Au Yeung took ownership, and after spending £40.5M, he decided not to fund it and put the club into administration ?? So the EFL vetted and approved both Au Yeung and NLF as fit owners of the club?? [Post edited 7 Jul 2020 14:10]

"Rick Parry has been involved in an astonishing conversation with a Wigan Athletic fan during which the chairman of the English Football League said there was a rumour that the club’s administration was linked to “a bet in the Philippines on them being relegated”. "Four weeks ago Wigan were sold from one Hong Kong-based company to another, both of which were until recently majority-owned by the same businessman and a high-stakes professional poker player, Dr Choi Chiu Fai Stanley."

Its not right though the EFL do the fit and proper person test which is a joke. Then the EFL impose a 12 point deduction and the club is left in turmoil. [Post edited 7 Jul 2020 18:50]

The EFL are corrupt and not fit for purpose. We're stuck in a bad place. We need new ownership, but if we get new owners, the EFL will let absolutely anyone take us over.

I dont think he is, his son is but he didn’t have the cash to keep them going I think. Dave W put millions into that club, losing all the time. Who else but someone who loves a club more than money would do that? It’s a rugby league town surrounded by huge clubs, they are doomed. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Perhaps it's because he sold the club. And the bitter fans don't want him back! Not appreciating all the success he brought to a small club. It happens a lot

You're comparing him with the sell outs here aren't you! Dear god man, Dave Whelan ploughed £100m of his own money into Wigan Athletic, and walked away with £22m! I'm sure Wigan fans would welcome him back with open arms! You're not very smart are you!

Our lot didn't put much in but sold at the peak to swell their bank balances and egos. Whelan sold the club after its peak selling amount when out of the prem. The 2 are non comparable.

Whelan didn't sell the club for personal gain though, he'd spent a fortune on them and left much the poorer. Unlike Jenkins who is now much, much richer. No comparison really.

Just a converted try and a drop goal needed, plenty of time left.
