Contracts in June 18:15 - Mar 14 with 3299 views | 56years | Given the current situation club finances across all leagues will be as ‘weak’ as they have ever been come June 2020. Those players who are out of contract, or those who have deliberately run down their contracts for their agents to tout them around ‘for sale’ to the highest bidder might just find themselves in a buyers not a sellers market. Might even apply to a couple of our players who earlier in the season were allegedly offered great deals but turned them down to put themselves on the open market in June. Sometimes loyalty can be a good thing after all ........... [Post edited 14 Mar 2020 22:15]

Contracts in June on 18:36 - Mar 14 with 3248 views | boromat | Depending on if we get going again and when we might need players to play past the end of their contract. Massive organisational shake up. Not sure how it will pan out. I'd be tempted to finish the season regardless. Play the euros in the winter so it's aligned with the next world cup and then plan the next season around that.

The Director of Football at Ipswich Town has indicated that all contract discussions are now on hold pending the financial implications of Covid 19. I would guess that must be the case at clubs up and down the land and will lead to a lowering of what players will be offered in terms of new deals going forward, at least in the short term to medium term. I bet Stephen Dooley is very glad he signed his contract extension when he did!

Depending on the level of financial support, if any, is available to league clubs then you would have to expect a number from league 1/2 won't outlast covid 19 leading to a surplus of players resulting in the lowering of terms/wage suppression. The issue of completing the season if past 30 June, ultimately nailed on, is that players contracts will cease on 30 June and will insurers cover them for the extension. The club would have to offer contract extensions of x weeks but if you were Wolves would you let Matheson finish the season or would you insists he reports to Molineaux on 1 July? It's potentially a £1m decision. Cases of this will be on an isolated basis in football and it is more likely to impact rugby union where the agreement of contracts in advance for other teams is a widespread practice.
