RUGBY WORLD CUP 2019 THREAD 19:26 - Sep 16 with 67880 viewsMrSwerve

Who's your money on then? Probably the All Blacks in all likelihood. I'm hoping that Wales have a strong showing - hopefully we will make the semis at least. Going to be tough though.

Gun to my head I'd say New Zealand.
South Africa look strong again.
Wales and England will just have to perform on the day once they get out if groups.

Refereeing will be key in this tournament. Their interpretations will influence results greatly.

That's a generous price, but they lack a tough front 5.
Their backs are a handful on their day but after beating NZ one week they got mullered the week after 36 -0 to them.

I was in Japan mid August and at the beginning of September and there was hardly any focus on the RWC with the locals; Tokyo 2020 build up has been much more prominent in terms of adverts and promotion. This seems to have changed recently though as the teams have arrived on Japanese soil.

I'm heading back East this coming Saturday so will be around for the Wales game. Also have an option for Russia v Samoa on the Tuesday. Home for a fortnight or so before back out for mid October which coincides with the QF's. My passage from Tokyo to down south is already planned and sorted.

Blimey JH, didn't realise every game is on ITV.

Shame really as I much prefer BBC coverage of rugby. No Eddie Butler then?

I don’t think the northern hemisphere should be automatically written off. Wales, England and Ireland have enough about them to do damage if they can get off to a good start. Momentum can take you a long way in tournaments.
It could be a very open World Cup. NZ will, as always, be the team to beat and SA are getting their act together. Injuries will play a big part. Looking forward to it.

Who can stop New Zealand?

Probably only South Africa. Then again, they may still have memories of losing to Japan.

I agree. As much as I dislike England, I think they have a very strong squad and Eddie Jones is a shrewd coach. He took Australia to the final when they lost to England, was Assistant Coach to the South Africans when they won in 2007 and coached Japan at the 2015 when they beat the Boks. I have a feeling they will do well.
Just catching up on the Howley stuff, it’s not good news for him our our preparations. I just hope we don’t do a Spain after they changed coach at the WC.

Warburton, Wilkinson, O'Connell,McGeehan will all provide far better analysis than the BBCs usual knobs.

I'm just grateful I don't have to listen to Nicol or Guscott.

Fairly strong line up for the analysis stuff. There’s something about watching Wales with Eddie Butler and Jiffy commentating though.
