Podcasts on 12:36 - Nov 6 with 3185 views | BrianMcCarthy | Others: Sodajerker on Songwriting - an long interview with a songwriter about his/her work. Damn good, if you like the artist in that episode. Waking Up With Sam Harris - US-based politics/current affairs/consciousness pod. Excellent, if in the mood for heavy stuff or, if not, excellent if you need to sleep. Great Lives Desert Island Discs

Podcasts on 12:41 - Nov 6 with 3170 views | paesanu | Wasn't there a thread here only a couple of weeks ago? Football: The Totally Football Show, hosted by the legend that is James Richardson Football Ramble, whereas the above are mostly in their 40s, this is 30s banter, pretty good Weekly News Summaries (Kind of like Have I Got News For You, but when it was funny): Friday Night Comedy (UK) Wait Wait Don't Tell Me (US, but very listenable) Easy to listen to on commute / long trips: Mystery Hour from LBC. The host is a tool, but the callers more than make up for it. One of the best one-hour radio formats ever. My Dad Wrote A Porno. A guy in his 20s reads to his two friends the erotic book his old man wrote. Light-hearted laugh-out-loud cringe. No Such Thing as a Fish. The team behind QI with more interesting tidbits to while away the time. Stories No spoilers, but S-Town was very well made and held my interest more than Serial. [Post edited 6 Nov 2018 12:48]

Podcasts on 18:22 - Nov 6 with 2917 views | MrSheen | A few not mentioned... History - I've tried a few times to get into Hardcore History, but I find the long-form format too cumbersome, and his rambling style and constant modern analogies off-putting. If you want to go in depth into something new, Mike Duncan is the King, and probably the most productive man in podcasts. He covered the History of Rome in a mere 187 episodes, and he is nearing the end of series 9 of "Revolutions", covering Mexico after the English, American, French (multiple), Haitian (!) and Bolivarian revolutions, as well as a compendium on 1848. I haven't listened to many, but his series on the English Civil War is a masterpiece, 20 clearly-argued, witty and well-constructed 25-minute-odd instalments, covering the events, ideas and personalities with suitable reminders and cross-referencing to allow you to hold it all together. He's got the Russian coming up next, I fear the effort will kill him. Also, "The Dollop", two angry and very funny comedians cover injustices, scandals and outrages from the hidden or forgotten pages of American history. Entertaining and shocking at the same time. Hundreds to choose from, but try Fedex Flight 705, Lord Gordon Gordon, Judge Roy Bean or New York's Orange Riots for size. The GLoP podcast - funny and illuminating commentary on American politics and culture from the Never-Trump right. The Art of Manliness - I never imagined I'd listen to a self-helpy podcast, but if you're bringing up boys (or girls for that matter), or want a bit of self-reflection or advice on doing things differently yourself, this is really helpful. Brett McKay is a very good interviewer of writers, historians, psychologists, educators or adventurers - anyone in fact with some advice or inspiration to give. Again, hundreds to choose from, you might hate a lot of them, but you'll appreciate others. BBC Radio 3 "Building a Library" - each week, a presenter takes a classical piece and compares recordings before making a final recommendation. Stimulating, informative and beautifully put-together, this has broadened my knowledge no end in a field where I had no idea where to start, and introduced me to some wonderful music that has improved my life. The BBC at its best, just superb. [Post edited 6 Nov 2018 18:26]

Podcasts on 19:26 - Nov 6 with 2874 views | MrSheen | Also, you don’t have to use the installed podcast app. I have an iPhone, but the Overcast app is much better. Downloads quicker and more reliably, lets me search without pushing featured product I don’t want. Best of all, 30 second skip ahead not 15, gets me past Casper/Blue Apron/Squarespace/Audible etc more easily.
Podcasts on 12:01 - Nov 7 with 2704 views | mikeyc01 | Give the Magic Sponge a go. Jimmy Bullard, Rob Beckett and Ian Smith interview an ex-pro on each episode. It mostly just turns into them sharing drinking stories. Kevin Gallen has been on a few episodes as well. I recommend listening to the Graham Stack and Lee Hendrie ones especially.
Podcasts on 12:17 - Nov 7 with 2681 views | dannyblue | Another + for Dan Carlin. I was totally swept away by his WW1 series. The dollop and Mike Duncan sound interesting, thanks for the tips Mr Sheen. I have also enjoyed: In Our Time - R4 stalwart and often fascinating introductions to a wide variety of topics. Invisibilia - "Unseeable forces control human behavior and shape our ideas, beliefs, and assumptions" This American Life - some amazing stories like the Russian boy who got pissed and ended up marooned on a tiny island within sight of JFK chasing ducks: https://www.thisamericanlife.org/307/in-the-shadow-of-the-city/act-one-0

You'll like the Dollop, I'm surprised it's not better known. They take their time getting going, and the crowd noise can be a bit annoying in their live shows, but once they hit their stride, they are fantastic.
Podcasts on 13:43 - Nov 7 with 2642 views | Superhoop83 | Many thanks to those who recommended My Dad Wrote A Porno. I laughed to myself so much walking to the station this morning I had to turn it off. I think I'll have to save it for the evening walk home in the dark. I cannot recommend it highly enough if you don't mind listening to very graphic but hilariously bad "erotic" literature.
