The Miners Strike on 23:44 - Jul 21 by jack2jack | Some of the best quality coal found anywhere in the world was hewn from the valleys of South Wales, absolute travesty that the mines and their communities were decimated . My old man worked for the NCB for 40 years, not long after the strikes, pit after pit was closed, never to reopen.Awful time for the miners their families and the communities they served. Cheap shite from abroad saw the end of mining in this country, fvcking travesty. [Post edited 22 Jul 2018 0:25]

I remember the figures at the time. Thatcher wanted to remove the subsidies while Germany for example was subsidising at £18 a ton for inferior quality coal. The witch sold off the country’s silver and had the good fortune of North Sea oil revenues to create her dream of Tesco Britain. [Post edited 21 Jul 2018 23:59]

Both my grandfathers and my step grandfather were miners and they all suffered in later life from horrendous respiratory problems and it got all three of them in the end. The forty woodbines a day probably didn’t help neither.

Correct. The best quality coal was powering our navy, stealing natural resources around the world whilst those who mined the coal were living in hovels in penury. That's what powered the f*cking 'Empire.' Like I said, hanging is needed for these robber barons. They've not only stolen our collective wealth, they've brainwashed our minds. Look at us argue amongst ourselves from the gutter whilst they piss upon us. Astonishing.

The Miners Strike on 23:19 - Jul 21 by Kilkennyjack | Well .... yes and no. Yes they deliberately dismantled the British state ...and killed all of British Airways, British Coal, British Steel, British Telecoms, British Petroleum, British Rail, British Gas, cut British Army, and privatised parts of the NHS. No because its going to result in the unintended break up of the nations of the old British State. Mrs T would not be pleased. Her union is dead. |
Well blow me down Kilkennyjack. A post from you that makes sense and is actually factually correct , well done.

Crossing the picket line in those times was a regular thing, and welcomed by the miners as they knew that someone had to keep the pumps etc working, if they failed and the mine was flooded that was it finito.Maitenance was key during the strikes. Non the less as a youngster it must have been tough.Good on ya TJ.👠

But it is. Absolutely. The society we have in 2018 is exactly the one that Thatcher spawned in the 80s. This generation and its offspring are her children and grandchildren. |
It was basically the beginning of neo liberalsim and you are correct

There were a lot of decent coppers who were sickened by it all, also there were those that revelled in it , i saw both first hand. There were some real sick f**kers whom I hope rot in hell., Hard to believe it was nearly 35yrs ago. I've said on here before getting rid of the mines wasn't the crime it was lack of reinvestment or a plan b for the areas affected.
