Hopefully with his links to Eustace he would choose us if we were to bid for him. I said on a previous thread that Bailly Carghill has been released and he was always highly rated. Add to that Tommy Elphick looks to be moving on from Villa - all could be worth a bid it just remains to be seen if we have any money to make bids or afford the wages?

Young cb Linked on 11:50 - Jun 24 with 4400 views | rsonist | Elphick was appalling for Villa. We'll end up with a real donkey if we're not very careful about emphasising experience and what it is we mean by that exactly. Judging by what WLS reported about our interest in the German at Brighton, that is what we are being though. On the other side of the coin I see young Trevoh Chalobah (recently training with the senior England squad) (yes, like Mark Perry) is likely to go on loan from Chelsea to Ipswich - so presumably not ruinously expensive for them like most loans these days. I know most people are down on loans here these days (developing other clubs' players etc etc) but I wouldn't throw the whole idea out of the window myself.

I think Elphick and Sainsbury will be out of our price range, I know nothing about Cargill but as a young left-footed CB he could be a good shout. I'd be happy if we signed a young CB (Horsfall/Cargill) and a more experienced CB.

Same but if any of this is at all accurate I doubt we're in a position to compete: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/wanted-man-sainsbury-attracted-big-offers-af Half-time was still off in the distance when the phone of Sainsbury's agent started ringing, with the first of five approaches for his client arriving during Australia's first-round World Cup match against France. [...] Jiangsu could be looking to recoup their hefty investment in the defender, who earns about $3.36 million per season and was brought to the club for around $2m in transfer fees.

I think loans are fine if they provide a player substantially better than we have and if it doesn't cost too much, someone to provide genuine quality to take the team up a level, Taarabt or Kyle Walker being good examples. If it's just game time for someone else's kids then it's not worth it (Sahar, Sinclair good examples!!).

I agree with this, didn’t sainsbury move to China to pay off his parents mortgage ? I don’t think he’d take the pay cut to join us and I’d imagine they’ll be plenty of interest after this wc. Don’t know much about Cargill- anyone seen him play at Fleetwood or in Scotland last year? I’d take both of them at the moment and an experienced cb if the budget allows it. Do we have anyone outside of baptiste, Lynch and a hobbled Hall ? They’ve all had knocks consistently whilst with us so I’d take all the cover we can get. Not sure if there’s anyone worth takin a look at in our u21? I saw finney signed for Maidstone on a permanent deal. Giles Phillips also had some hype coming in last year but didnt see him get close to the first team exception for the subs bench at Leeds. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I would imagine that Walker (game time for someone else's kid) and Adel (unwanted) were loaned with the same intention as Sinclair and Sahar... so yeah, I guess I'd have to agree with your point that we want loans that work out and not ones that don't...
