What are you talking about Partz ?, unionist parties seem to be behind the idea as can be seen from the above links, its the likes of Plaid that is fighting the home teams corner. [Post edited 9 Apr 2018 18:37]

Yes its a lot - and one of the largest welsh petitions ever, i might guess ! Massively embarrassing for the Royals and the quisling Alun Cairns. Her maj will be furious about the advice given to her blowing up so badly. I think you will see Alun Cairns in the stocks, or locked in the Tower. You dont mess with Phil the Greeks family. Fact.

That was a bit flippant on reflection. Apologies. To sum up, I am saying it is a shame that ALL politicians don't fight for issues of greater importance more vociferously. As regards the bridge then it would be nice if both bridges were named. A competition is a good idea but it is not purely a Welsh bridge so it should be open to the English as well.

Alun Cairns on 13:26 - Apr 9 by Joe_bradshaw | The bridge is run by highways England. |
Yeah it is. It's more English than Welsh in terms of its development and running, for sure. Yet it does also sit on Welsh territory. My original point was that it's strange that some in Wales see it as their bridge when territorially it's a shared asset. I'd say the English (via Highways) have more of a right to name it than the Welsh, but they should be sympathetic. Still a stupid name though - harks back to colonial days. Funny how people get attached to a bridge too.

Alun Cairns on 11:00 - Jun 28 with 3121 views | sherpajacob | Whatever your politics or your view on Alun Cairns' abilities and effectiveness in representing Wales. It must never be forgotten that 2 years ago, he pulled out at the last minute, from attending a centenary memorial service in Mametz Wood honouring and remembering the men of the 38th Welsh Division, who fought across the Somme in 1916. The reason for his non attendance? So he could be in London to vote in the early rounds of the conservative party leadership elections. That pretty much tells you all you need to know about the man.

Correct. They're all the same of course. I recall Rhodri Morgan not attending the 60th anniversary of D Day in France in order to attend a golf event. He said at the time that the golf event was already in his diary when the invitation arrived. A veteran responded by saying that the 60th anniversary of D Day had been in HIS diary since 1944.

I agree Rhodri Morgan was wrong and should have sent a deputy to Celtic Manor when the Normandy invitation arrived. Cairns no show was on an entirely different level imho. He was invited as the Secretary of state for Wales to a ceremony that was specifically and uniquely about Wales. He was scheduled to give an address to the many who were there. Including descendants of those who had fought and died, many of them having made the trip in poor health themselves. He put the Tory party leadership contest above all that.

Here is a photo of Leanne Wood [all in black] at the centenary memorial. http://www.assembly.wales/en/newhome/pages/newsitem.aspx?itemid=1595 I seen an internet Q & A session on the net asking Leanne why she stayed behind after the ceremony mingling with the people when all the other politicians had left in a motorcade straight after the memorial, some people are for real, sadly most are not, well done Leanne.

Quote: "A veteran responded by saying that the 60th anniversary of D Day had been in HIS diary since 1944." That is so profound, just goes to show how reality/common sense devoid many politicians really are! They're also very adept at taking the (could not do that with D Day) credit when it suits them.... You know? Politician shows up wearing a yellow hard hat and high viz vest.....cuts a bit of turf with brand new shiny shovel.....cuts a red ribbon.....pulls the red velvet curtain to unveil a plaque and pisses off when the 'hit-and-run' photo opportunity is all over. The teams that barrowed tons of ready mix, that wheeled through a steel shuttered ready mix mini-quagmire, that did so in a searing heat wave or two, or three, never ever get a mention. In fact (seen it myself) the riff-raff responsible are never ever on the guestlist!
