Tribunal question on 21:05 - Feb 13 by exiledclaseboy | You’re both right. 10% of the workforce have to be union members but before the union has to be recognised it has to have evidence that a majority of the whole workforce (i.e. 50% or more) is in favour of that union being recognised. That is how a certain union rep explained it to me as we were discussing how we could unionise my company.

Tribunal question on 08:12 - Feb 14 with 1442 views | jack_lord | I had a problem a while back and thanks to the advice from PlanetSwans posters and my Union I managed to remain relatively sane as I considered the tribunal route. The manager is no longer with my company.

Tribunal question on 10:12 - Feb 14 with 1408 views | swanforthemoney | A relative had a grievance and was put at risk of redundancy and wanted to take their public sector employer to Tribunal. It was an employment dispute, rather than an unfair dismissal claim at the time. From memory, they found the information available on the Acas site helpful. I think you can speak to someone for free. http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1364 The Trade Union, Unison, was very disappointing in this case and didnt have the time or resources to help. Rep was off sick most of the time and had no back up. The union had lawyers, but my relative couldnt get any help from them for a reason that wasnt exactly clear.

Tribunal question on 19:27 - Feb 13 by Highjack | If that's true then unions are even more pointless than is currently obvious. |

Tribunal question on 10:51 - Feb 14 with 1382 views | Naughty71 | The fee of £1500 for every case brought to appeal/tribunal in our business has recently been removed, so it doesn't cost anything for the union to lodge an appeal anymore, so there is nothing to lose by our union fighting every case now. Check with yours to see if it is the same, should be, but I don't know the process outside of my personal experience with the business I am in.

Tribunal question on 11:18 - Feb 14 with 1362 views | exhmrc1 | it depends on the union rep. I had a particularly good one towards the end. He took a case forward for an ex employee to the civil service appeal tribunal and won. It depends on the case but if there is no chance of success no one will take a case on.
Tribunal question on 11:30 - Feb 14 with 1352 views | waynekerr55 | I've seen both sides. For example, when I worked at Swansea college there was an email scandal which a number of staff that were sacked (conveniently around the time of planned redundancies - karma caught up with that incompetent bitch Maxine Room in the end). One union rolled over and took it, whilst UCU fought for the members and secured significant pay outs. At present I'm dealing with a union rep who fights everything. He's a good guy but he needs to pick his battles. As mentioned earlier if the union's legal team will advise regional office on whether to proceed or not

I thought being in the EU gave us all those things? But seriously I'm sure there a lot of good people with good intentions involved and they have done a lot of good historically but in recent years their priorities have shifted away from protecting the little fella and they have become a bloated monstrosity that is only concerned with making money and playing politics.
