Whether the club like any of what the Trust put online should always be irrelevant. To be honest, while of course it’s very important and pertinent right now, the pitch is but one part of the whole situation and it reflects far worse on the club that the Trust are the only ones to at least try and address it in a public forum.

There’s a bigger issue summed up in my earlier post about the fixture board.

Is it true that the club won't let you put the pitch stuff up on the website until they agree with the wording ??

No. There’s 3rd parties involved in the minutes (actually in details provided by the club after the event) and the issues comes down to that.

A very Interesting comment Col and therein highlights the problem with a lack of a club statement it leaves us with no other option than to read between the lines second guessing and listen to Chinese whispers. My take on it is the third party is the company that laid the pitch and there are legal reasons for the silence?

If any legal/compensation based action were to be taken details being posted on line might jeopardise any case maybe perhaps probably talking rubbish

Didnt somebody say that the pitch was guaranteed for 18mths !
Well it didnt even make 12mths so under the 'not fit for purpose' consummer rights law then Dale have a case....

Do we know at all if that pitch laying company have been up to look and given an opportunity to resolve the issues....

After looking at the photos i think the only way forward due to the wet n cold weather we have is to deep spike the pitch.....
The pitch company should sort the pitch at the seasons end....

Mayfield match is live on BBC sports , and their pitch certainly good enough for Hornets, and the ground is big enough for the few hundred they get.

maybe so be they signed an agreement with us, as owners of the stadium to play at Spotland. We really cannot expect hornets to help us out of this mess.

The reaction around everything they did well regarding the postponement again illustrates the major issue. Where is the accountability around saying that yes, they could have been better? If the ref said “85-90% playable” at 10.45am why was there NO mention of such an inspection taking place to keeping travelling fans informed?

If, as touched upon in part one, they review all processes, has this been identified as an area for improvement or is everything seen as ok because Southend’s staff were complimentary?

Again, it would be oh so easy to spend ages pointing out the overwhelming, reoccurring issues, but it really is becoming futile.

The club have a twitter account and a communications officer

Use them. Just use them when it really matters, not when it suits

Other than that, the pitch issues are now out in the open and it goes to show how communication at an earlier stage would've avoided much unnecessary speculation

If some of the recent criticism could be seen as unfair in view of the circumstances we're now aware of, it could have been avoided

"In terms of those travelling to the game, the club provided free food to a number of supporters who had travelled over. Indeed, one set of sponsors (Jempumps) felt they were looked after so well at the club that as a result they had booked two further matchday sponsorship packages for later in the season.
The board stated that they received compliments from the Southend staff for the way that they were kept informed by the club throughout the whole process, and from the Southend media team who were looked after upon their arrival."

Ace, but the question was solely about supporters of both Dale and Southend, who were presumably still on their way to Spotland. He hasn't posted on this issue, but I imagine fermin was one such supporter.

Surely the Trust pushed the club to that effect, as their interest should be for their members (and Dale fans in general) rather than the likes of the Southend media team who wouldn't be inconvenienced financially for a wasted journey.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

I believe the club actually employs two ‘communications officers’ and one on a junior-type-deal who covers the Academy.

I appreciate the Trust taking time to write part 2. I remain saddened that the Directors don't understand the impact on the fans of not them being able to communicate effectively. There are maybe 100 or so fans that travel quite long distances to home games. I would expect the club to be making update announcements at 10am on match days should there be a potential issue. That way we have choices. They used to do that and I cant help but believe that the lack of a customer focussed person on the board now doesn't help. At least Mr Kelly made his business through being close to customers and we seem to miss him enormously.

I don't trust my club anymore. I have travelled several times in recent seasons, and not only spent a small fortune on petrol, I lost the cost of my hotel booking at the Norton Grange. I simply don't book my weekends in January or February anymore as we cant be confident in anything. Great to hear that club looked after the sponsors and the Southend media though. I feel special too. :(

I accept the pitch is disgraceful and the Directors cant snap their fingers to fix it. But they can get the club staff to communicate. I genuinely believe that they were told not to communicate in case the pitch became playable and we lost some travelling support. Just how I feel. I have always been taught to behave with integrity in business.

One thought. About 6 years ago during the cold months I seem to recall the Trust texting fans about potential pitch inspections and postponements. Don't want to put undue pressure on the volunteers but wonder whether that would be possible again?

I appreciate the fans annoyance on the bad communications on occasions, and hopefully lessons have been learned and things will improve, but I don't understand the gripe some people have with the match sponsors and Southend media team being well looked after. At the time the game was postponed the sponsors would probably have already been at the COA, and the food etc already been prepared. What was the club supposed to do, tell them to go away. If the club did get another sponsorship booking, at least some good came out of a bad situation. Surely that's a good thing?

Please see previous points around accountability. Rather than give answers that concentrate on the recognised positives, address the issues and acknowledge improvements that can be made.

As you note, lessons will hopefully be learned and things will improve, but surely if communications were acknowledged as a problem, ie. a lesson to be learnt, why wasn't it mentioned in the answers provided?

How can they learn to be better with communications if there's nothing in there saying they think they could have been better with communications?!

If you read my post again you won't see any negativity on treating people well. I want the club to think about treating our own loyal fans with the same respect too. And still no apology or acknowledgement one week on.

I stand by my post and I remain saddened and disappointed. I cant forgive this time. It is too hard to support my club from 150 miles away week in week out. I guess you will live fairly locally and don't get it

Also, in response to a fan asking whether they have evaluation procedures in place, this was the answer:

<<"The club carry out analysis for everything that they do, with regular meetings regarding pre and post match activities.">>

So to admit that and then not actually acknowledge this issue properly is even more disappointing what with it being something they will have analysed as part of "everything that they do".

I appreciate and agree with a lot of your post Dalenet, and although I replied to you, it wasn't aimed especially at you hence I used the term, some people. I really do hope the club issue an apology, but can't see it after so much time has now elapsed. I do live local and believe me I do get it.
