Has anyone any experience of renting a holiday cottage in Cornwall and if so which internet site did you use to select? Better still do you have any recommendations for a holiday cottage?

Thank you please.

Don't forget Fath that Kernow are the West Welsh, be careful of local sensibilities, some of the indigenous types are patriotic to the cause.

How far south and when are you looking to go?

St Ives is fantastic but it's jam packed during the summer weeks. We had a week there last October and it wasn't to busy and the weather was still quite mild. We booked our place through Aspect Holidays.

However there are alternatives to St Ives. Looe and Padstow are other places that we have been to and would recommend to others.

I am on my way to stay at this cottage for the third time. It is not a traditional cottage but attached to a modern bungalow (totally self contained). It is located between Tintagel and Boscastle and not too far from Bude (N. Cornwall). The views are fabulous and also dog friendly (if that is of interest).

The best pasties I've ever tasted were from Boscastle, the pasty shop on the right hand side in the modern row of shops as you go down yhe hill.

Just came back from there last week. Rented a place called Warleigh Lodge in Tamerton Foliot, just north of Plymouth. Fantastic place. Just on the cusp of Dartmoor, lots of brilliant walks. You could also walk directly from the cottage down a public footpath to a tributary of the river Tamar, called Braxton Creek, with a ruined mill to explore. Brilliant.

15 mins drive from the centre of Plymouth, only an hour from The Eden Project and plenty of the south to explore.

Booked it through Cottages.com. Not cheap, but I booked with the kids in the summer holidays, you can pick it up around £500 cheaper once they go back to school next week.

A wonderful harbour village Fath. Porthleven is 12 miles from Penzance, 14 miles from Mousehole. Plus it's close to Truro and Falmouth.

This is a good site as well.

Advice I would give Fath as someone that has travelled in the past is if travelling overland to travel by day and don't travel on a Sunday, if I recall a Swansea law firm came up with some do's and don'ts a few years back.
Avoid walled market towns in border areas when travelling through Ingerlund, if Welsh you can be shot by a longbow at anytime on a Sunday in certain border areas and after dark with a bow and arrow if caught inside the walled town of certain places but once across the Tamar things should be less dangerous but beware of spies.
Assuming Fath is a Swansea type then he might want hot dogs for tea, I would not order onions in case spies are observing as Ingurlanders hate garlic or leeks or anything like that it might give the game away.
Respect the locals as always, they might try and claim King Arthur is hiding on their patch when really he is hiding up in Pontneddfechan but I would refrain from upsetting them by telling them that, but they do make a nice ice cream over there which I would advise sampling.

An afternoon pint outside The Sloop Inn whilst watching a high tide is up there with my favourite things to do. A close second is a pint on the quayside at The Ship Inn, Mousehole.

Yeah, about 5 minutes drive from the Tamar bridge into Kernow itself!
