Bristol Rovers on 21:08 - May 16 by Edmundo | Potentially a biggish club, maybe not bigger than City, but would eclipse most lower league sides on not only weekly gate, but potential pull from the area. |
City only averaged 12,200 in a season they walked Div 2. Thought it was down to ground development but capacity is quoted as 21,000

Bristol Rovers on 20:25 - May 16 by perchrockjack | good last post. Rovers remind me of Wrexham shamefully in conference neverland. TOO MANY, thousands travel the extra hour to Liverpool and Manchester to see "their" team. Its sickening really and its been thus for many years even when Wrexham were doing well. |
Wrexhams new manager sounds like he is serious from what i have read. Hopefully he gets them back where they belong.

Dear me pen, you have it in for City, their ground is being redeveloped hence the 12 k crowds, the capacity goes up to 27 thousand next year, they have fickle fans like us, the Northampton play off final comes to mind

Those arguments veer perilously close to the kind of self delusional bullshit Cardiff fans use when trying to big themselves up in comparison to us. City are probably just about bigger overall, but given a period of relative success in comparison to them Rovers would probably draw in bigger crowds. Can't help but wonder what the city could achieve with only one team in it though.

Agreed about the one City, but why would Rovers attract more support? in the past they have been 2 divisions above City and still couldn't attract more fans, City have always been the biggest, they are the City team Rovers are north Somerset

I can't remember a time (prior to Rovers recent struggles) where one team has had significantly larger support than the other. City are way bigger now, but if the roles were reversed then Rovers would be pulling in comparatively larger gates IMO.

Bristol City have always had bigger crowds than Rovers for as long as I can remember anyway. That's a kind that of fact.

Sorry but you have a very poor memory, I watched football for over 50 years and can never remember Rovers having a larger average attendance than City, no matter what division they were in

Not sure where you got Rovers having a North Somerset support from, that's more of a City area being South of the river.

Apologies, perhaps my geography of Bristol is not the best, But City do command the greater support?

We've seen some freaky results over the years. Remember Martin Thomas having a blinder for Rovers at The Vetch when they beat us 0-1. We were awesome, but so was he in goal! Middlesborough was another. We attacked them all game, they foraged five times and beat us 0-5. Freaky Football happens every once in a while.
