it's a sensible thing to lead on and they make some good points, I just don't think they have much else
Already voted on 11:54 - Apr 27 with 3274 views | robith | I do find it amusing that having come out to bat hard for the Westminster system winner takes all plurality mechanic and shooting themselves in the foot over boundary reform, the Tories are going to make it 26 years without a majority when PR would deliver a governable Tory UKIP coalition

Already voted on 11:46 - Apr 27 by izlingtonhoop | They may well get a lot of votes (BBC Poll of Polls currently has them on 16%), but they are unlikely to get many - if any - seats. http://www.electionforecast.co.uk/ has them on one, and that's an incumbent Tory defection, other predictions I've seen have them on three. That's how first past the post does it. So, Pomanjou's prediction of UKIP having any weight in any coalition, much less a Farridge strop causing a new election, seems unlikely. I've always believed that first past the post lead to clear cut government and PR a mish-mash. But now, if we are not going to get clear majorities, then PR would lead to a much fairer representation of the people in any coalition. That notwithstanding, if FPTP keeps NF (pun intended) and his brigade from having 16% of a say, I remain in favour. [Post edited 27 Apr 2015 11:56]

"clear cut government" under the Westminster system is an undemocratic forcing of the polices about 30% of the population voted for on everyone. Hopefully this election will be its death knell

As I say, I'm beginning to agree. But definitely not that AV nonsense they presented us with last time. [Post edited 27 Apr 2015 12:00]

Labour might lose a bit to the Greens though (although the polls seem to suggest it will be mostly the Libs who suffer from a Green pick up).

Already voted on 13:50 - Apr 27 with 3126 views | Aitch | While I think UKIP will be the third party in terms of votes cast, I don't think that'll translate into many seats unfortunately. I think UKIP have a lot of good policies ( why on earth are we sending foreign aid to India when they're building space rockets is beyond me). While a lot of the others parties policies are just shuffling the pack of old tried and failed ideas. And how the hell is Cameron's right to buy for council tenants going to work when most councils seem to have sold all their stock to Housing Associations? For what it's worth UKIP will get my vote this time around.

Maybe people would like to be released from the United States of Europe Project which has a President who was not elected by the people. Perhaps they would like to run their own country and be given the freedom to build trade links on a global scale.

However where Farage is concerned I feel obliged to comment, tho not on his party's policies. I'll just mention that I went to school with him. He was a very open supporter of the National Front, and frequently racist, again openly, and some comments even by the standards of the time were quite shocking. I'll leave it at that, and you can decide if you think he's changed; or he hasn't changed but still feel comfortable voting for him.

Already voted on 11:30 - Apr 27 by daveB | The whole plan seems to be to cut immigration which is fine but they don't seem to have anything else. On the NHS it's about treating less immigrants to allow Brits to get seen, on finances it's give less money to foreign aid, all seems to be the same thing. I think they'll be a disaster but are going to get a lot of votes as immigration is a major topic that none of the other parties seem to be dealing with very well. |
The major parties are far more moderate on immigration because they have an actual chance of power. UKIP can and are promising the world to all and sundry, because they know full well they will never gain power and need to back up their outlandish promises. When put under pressure though, the facade quickly crumbles as shown when Suzanne Evans, in the space of 60 seconds on Radio 4, went from insisting UKIP would cease all unskilled migrants, to admitting that UKIP would infact continue to allow unskilled migrants entry. So UKIP will continue to allow skilled migrants in, and under UKIP your car will still be washed by an Eastern European, your fruit & veg will still be picked by an Eastern European, and the streets will still be swept by Eastern Europeans. Not quite the 'immurgrunt' free vision their supporters were sold...

If someone can explain how this is in any way a racist policy, please do,coz there's plenty of Asians working in Auz. It is a form of quality/border control around essential skills and that's why UKIP get my vote. I note nutty Natalie had a voice fade today,to go with her brain fade - oh how I love the fact that someone not even born here would love open borders, perhaps she should go back to her native Australia and suggest it.
Already voted on 16:05 - Apr 27 with 2693 views | WestbourneR | Voting for UKIP dear me - is this really what we've become? I thought this message board was a bit better than that. A predicable choice for the brain-dead I suppose. You know what I don't even mind the immigration stuff, I'd be happy to see it limited more too... But how anyone thinks leaving Europe is a good idea. It'd kill us off economically. It scares me how small minded this country can be sometimes. Embarrasing.

There are 22 other European countries that trade without the need to be in the EU. Albania Andorra Belarus Bosnia-Herzegovina Gibraltar (UK territory) Guernsey Iceland Isle of Man (UK territory) Jersey (UK territory) Liechtenstein Macedonia (Former Yugoslav Republic of) Moldova Monaco Montenegro Norway Russia San Marino Serbia Switzerland Turkey Ukraine Vatican City OK, about half that list are small countries but Norway & Switzerland are amongst the propsperous countris in the world. In fact, in 2012 Norway were the most prosperous in the world with the Swiss 9th (UK 13th). I'm genuinely interested to know why people think we'd be 'screwed'?
Already voted on 16:24 - Apr 27 with 2644 views | Mark1 | There's a whole World out there to trade with.Having lived in Auz for years you get a real sense of the World's wealth heading East, I'd be building up trade links with that region, backing innovative businesses and trying to build up a reputation for quality - they love stuff with the Union Jack trade mark on it. Europe is not fit for purpose - apart from Germany, who's doing alright and if it's so fantastic, why do so many Europeans want to come and live here ? Perhaps it's to watch the Rangers or pay high rents, house prices and publications c transport costs.
Already voted on 16:36 - Apr 27 with 2613 views | Mark1 | We wouldn't be screwed . I reckon they should use some of the money they waste on foreign aid and other stuff to help start up businesses on things we can buy and export - cars,TV's,etc Once they're up and running, float them on the stock market and recoup the money spent. Our Country needs to go up market.

Already voted on 17:24 - Apr 27 with 2525 views | easthertsr | The dissatisfaction with politicians from all parts of the political spectrum has lead to the 3 party system fracturing, UKIP, the Greens and the Nationalists have all made significant gains as people try to vote for something they believe in , and in the belief that they wont be sold down the river. As a leftie I will be voting Green as where I live the Tories could put up a showroom dummy here and still win.(Actually I think they might have!) But the disengagement with the political process cannot be changed without Proportional Representation. 5% of the votes should get 5% of the seats, that is what I call democracy, the current system is a travesty, favouring the 2 main parties when huge numbers of the electorate on the left and the right support neither.
