BORO FAN HERE RE EMNES 23:44 - Jan 31 with 14096 viewsMFC1876

Interesting reading your comments on todays loan signing. I follow Boro home and away (including the Vetchfield and Liberty Stadium in the past) and I don't know of a single Boro fan who won't be happy that Marvellous Marvin has gone (for now at least).

Marvin is known as "Project Emnes" by many Boro fans (he earned this tag after ex-Manager Southgate said he was a long-term project when asked why he had waited 36 games in the 2008/09 season before starting his first League game).

This season he has been awful. 1 goal in 23 appearances (incl as sub), he has a heart like a pea, is soft as S***e, looks disinterested and the last two home games when he has been subbed (rightly so) he has gone straight down the tunnel. Not good.

He seems more bothered about his hair (which hasn't been cut since he was last at Swansea) than contributing to the team.

Our previous Manager Tony Mowbray alluded to Emnes fragile mental state on more than one occasion. "Marvin needs to be loved" was one of the quotes. Earning thousands of pounds a week ... more like needs a kick up the backside!

In terms of positives all I would say is he knows Swansea having played there, can be good on the break when tuned in and is only on loan so can be returned to Boro (groan).

Anyway good luck for the rest of the season you have been a breath of fresh air to the Premier League, deserved your League Cup win and I hope you enjoy your European adventures.

Yep. What we really needed was to (a) not lose anyone and (b) get some of our players back from injury. Job done on both accounts.

Correct.

And he's not intended to be anything else. If he doesn't grasp his one or two cameo chances spectacularly we won't be seeing him so why worry.

Time to forget all the cack now, although the usual suspects will be frothing at the gash with righteous misery for a few months yet no doubt. The teams are now finalised, 15 games, get 16 points and give both cups a good lash. Let's do it!

Starting today. Will be a massive 3 pts if we get a result against wet spam. Wish I was going and not having to put up fecking curtain poles for the missus

Yeah, don't you listen to someone who has taken the time to give us a broad and well thought out post. Don't take it personally, he / she was being helpful.

Some good posts on the thread. My opening post was to give you a flavour of what Emnes has been like at Boro. Obviously it's an opportunity for him at Swansea and I hope he takes it.

Graham may come with some baggage but he can and I think will score goals for us at Championship level. We are hardly in a strong position to attract top players given that we are mid-table, have no money, had 13,000 watch our last home game in a 35,000+ capacity stadium and are in the North East which may as well be the Faroe Islands to some players!

Given that our forwards have scored 7 goals between the 4 of them all season in over 120 combined games Graham can't do any worse!

Good luck today ... for those Swans complaining about your current plight think yourselves lucky ... I'm off now to see Boro play at Doncaster with 4,000+ other Boro fans. No disrepect to Donny but I bet you don't miss going to places like that now you're in the promised land of the Premiership.

In fact i do..... our best away trips were in the Championship.

The prem is great but the trips are expensive , sterile atmospheres and full of tourists at away grounds.

The Championship is full of passionate fans.

I made the opening post on this thread back in January when Marvin Emnes joined the Swans on loan from my team Boro.

So now we are at the end of the season, what's the verdict on him?

Mark out of 10?

Do you think he will be with you next season?

He has only played a few times, but has looked quite good in those few appearances.

If the price is right, I’m sure we will buy him - how much do you think Boro would sell for?

I think 8/10 is far too high - what would Bony or Routledge be 30/10?

He has done enough to earn a contract, but I'd say, he would not be a regular starter.

The reason hes an 8/10 for me is the expectations of him when he signed were extremely low. Pretty much every game hes played he has added something to our game going forward. Granted he's unlikely to play.start every game, but would be a great squad player for us and unlikely to demand massive amounts of cash. Pick him up for around £1m and id be happy personally.

Added more than Vasquez and Lamah between them in the couple of months hes been here. Good link up play with Bony, can finish and is quick. Tidy.

I think Boro will want more than 1 million. I think 2 million will be ok, as he only has 1 year left on his contract, but Huw might decide to pay anything Boro want, which could be a worry.

I think he will be offered a contract,he's comfortable with the surroundings, and he seems to prosper here.

I'd like to see him stay and i'd give him 7/10 for his latest spell with us.

"Now then" smoggy

Good addition to our squad, great understanding with Wilf, seems happy with us, very quick, decent shot, strength needs some work but that'll come I think. I think Marvin's found a home. I don't quite understand why you couldn't get out of him what we have, perhaps it's because he's happy here, maybe as simple as that.

I reckon you'll be looking at 1mil to 2mil, which is a good return for a sub. By the way, you got any more worth signing? Leadbitter will be along soon to poach a few more.

I'm with PozuelosSideys on this one.

Been very pleasantly surprised with his performance in every match.

The fact Boro don't particularly want him, and we don't "need" him (though he'd be very useful to have), would hopefully mean we'd be in a good position to negotiate a reasonable price.

Definitely be happy with him signing for us for the right price.

If Monk sticks to wanting 4 wingers I guess it will be Routs Dyer Emnes Hernandez. All 4 can play striker and have pace. the first two have genuine pace still. Herandez may come inside to join our midfield 6 which leaves a gap for a genuine pacey winger. I would loan the lad from United was at Cardiff as he is going to get better, Zaha.

I have a mate who does not watch Boro as regularly as OP but he did turn pro and does not rate Emnes though would be happy for him to fit in somewhere. I

The goal ME scored and the two penalties he won can be argued as the main change Monk made to keep us up.

I also see JDG on the wing, Bony and Shelvey as major reason for our survival and ability to win games. For Emnes to do that under the pressure of our fans to me proves he is not fragile or heartless. The turn for his goal was reminiscent of his turn for his goal in the derby and he packs a good shot.

morning. from what I saw on TV he was average, good points 1. he can break from inside his own half and 2. is strong enough to hold the ball (which could be good for Michu and Bony)

not the finished article but we only need 4 wingers, he was not a starter at CCFC so cannot expect to be starter

This.
It frees up a squad place and takes a wage packet off your books.
We can always get him fit and loan him back to you for a small fee, in the future.
So maybe it's time for Boro to give him a free transfer, if he's not out of contract in the summer and we'll see what we can do with him

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.

Looking at Routledge, Dyer, Emnes, Hernandez and de Guzman, I'm not sure I'd call any of them true wingers. Routledge is probably the closest, in the sense that he can beat a man and deliver a cross. Dyer and Emnes create chances by being fast and tricky, taking defenders on and Hernandez and de Guzman create chances through their passes.

I'm not saying this is a bad thing. I reckon the main benefit of playing two wide players is that it stretches the game out across the park. We often struggle when everything gets congested in the middle.

I like what I've seen of McManaman at Wigan, but I'd prefer a genuine left footed wide player to give us some balance.
